I have been having problems with loggin in. I tend to crash right at after I log in and before objects get loaded. I noticed that while on the login screen that my CPU is at a steady 98% usage. Even after letting my PC sit idle for 5 min. the CPU usage remand steady at 98%. Yet when the screen is minimized the usage goes down to 11% to 13%. It returns to 98% as soon as the screen is maximized again. If I am already at 98% before the client starts up then I think that could be a potential for a problem.

There is also a file, most likely in your root directory (C

called secondlife.txt or secondlife.log which you should zip and send to them. It records diagnostics during initialisation (and/or a crash...similiar to a core dump I think).

Peter has been very helpful - I have a similiar problem to you. I am running WinXP on a computer with 512 mb ram with a Radeon 32 mb card. WinXP users currently need more than 256 mb but this will be fixed soon. I still cannot login, but have been told they are working on it.

Guess we both have to spend more time in our first life waiting!

I discovered my problem. I have a GeForce# TI 500 card and forgot how much memory was on it. I defined my card as having 128mb of mem instead of the 64 it actually has. Once I corrected this I can login in with little problem. lag is still an issue though.

Looks like you replied while I was editing my post. I realized it sounded a little harsh, so I tried to lighten it up a bit. Sorry I didn't finish doing that in time.

Anyway, I'm sure he has upgraded the thing by now. It would be tough to imagine a card from 2001 still being in use in 2010. But back in 2002, when he wrote the original post, the card was current. It was only a year old, and was still in widespread use.

EDIT: OK, now it appears you've deleted the reply. This just keeps getting more and more confusing.

I'm not sure how you managed to delete two out of your three replies to this thread, but the fact that you did so is almost as odd as the fact that you chose to reply in 2010 to a thread from 2002 in the first place. If your goal was to throw us all for a loop today, nicely done.
