Lindens, will you ever fix the "Stuck between sims" bug?

It's been here since the dawn of time and still not dead yet. What on earth causes it in the first place? I cant for the life of me imagine that in this day and age a team of highly skilled programmers like you guys cant reliably transmit the info pertaining to my attachments from one computer to another. Will sim transitions ever be "perfect" or will there always be a chance of my attachments not arriving, causing all sorts of weird behavior?

I think the problem is not actually with the attachment transfer or anything, but rather the server you "enter" not actually opening a connection for you, because the server you're "leaving" never finished establishing your connection in the first place from entering it, and thus cannot hand you off to the next server properly. This is how I understood it at least. Everything else is just a side effect of you not existing on either server properly.

To me it looks like when you enter a sim it is loading lot of data about your av and your attachments, probably from a database which explains why sometimes it's fast, but other times delay is unpredictable 0 -> 10s.

Attachments are the death of sim crossings. An avatar can survive being thrown from Luna to Shipley without going offworld if it doesnt have attachments. The problem arrises when you have any prim attached to your av.
I think this is a side effect from how attachments were/are implimented back in the old days.
In the beta days, you could literally see your attachments trailing off your av and snapping back each time you moved on the map. These days, avatars are predictably moved into regions (You can see this in debug console, "Moving agent into region xxxx" when an av moves close to a sim boundary.
I dont know for certain though, why the 'stuck to boarder' and 'able to move but not in sim (aka, map shows Im in Olive, at coords 487, 928, and Im still able to move)' occur. They seem to be prevented completely if your not wearing attachments though. Any lindens know why this happens?

Last time it happened, I was in the vehicle sims. Both were empty, and I had VERY LITTLE attached to me. Like a grand total of 2 or 3 prims. I know that debugging can be hard as heck, especially in concurrent/distributed programming, but jesus, it's been almost a year since I've joined.

Any number of attachments I think it effects how careful the simulators need to be when transferring your av over a sim border, with one prim (the av) it can basicly do whatever it wants, but with more, it seemingly breaks down.

I was in Mocha, but got bumped into Chartreuse somehow. My map said I was still in Mocha at (-210, 285) even though I was in the air looking eastward at the front entrance to the WS casino. What's even stranger was I was still able to talk with someone who was in mocha at the spot where I was sitting before getting bumped to these coordinates.

==Chris Mmm, I don't know, i've experienced this even after removing all attachments and relogging, just as a test. I was travelling extremely fast, however, and was intentionally trying to recreate it.

It happens to me WITH or WITHOUT attachments. But with attachments, the delay or weirdness is more likely and lasts longer.

The worst part of this problem is when you cross a simline in a vehicle and you get that falling effect. Its not so bad when it recovers and places you back in position. BUT.. Theres times where it makes it look like you are underground and have to relog to correct this. When this happens it causes a problem with the vehicle itself after you recover it. the second seat no longer works and prims retain memory of the scripts in the broken state. You can link/unlink.. you can remove and ad a new seat script. none of these work to fix the problem its as iff the seat still thinks there is an ass on it strangely the fix is easy. unlink the seat, make a copy with control-d and link the new copy. delet the old one, its useless. This is easy enough for a vehicle but its horrible for business because someone who buys your vehicle from you cannnot do this. I know its not the scripts because is never happened until recently. one of the last 3 updates has caused this to happen and its happening to most vehicle builders products. those that it doesnt happen to just dont drive enough This is really making the vehicle business suck and I am not selling any new products until this is fixed. OK, I vented Thanks for the ears... err eyes
