My vision for v1.2 (or various post-v1.1 updates)

I was going to wait until v1.1 was released to make this post, but I feel the sooner, the better, that way maybe I can sway Linden and public opinion towards what I feel should be done about some things in Second Life.

Ever since I started beta testing Second Life in v.0.3.2 we've had bugs of some sort. We've all come to accept these bugs for what they are. However, I'm noticing that there are a few which still haven't been fixed, even since the very first version I began testing on. Also, as we've had updates, there have been "extra features" added, like random avatar stances, which were never really asked for (as far as I could tell) and haven't really come with editable options.

I believe that before v1.2 comes out, or at least when v1.2 comes out, these bugs should be ironed out and the new features should come with a couple options. Here's my list, which is definitely incomplete as I'm writing this in the morning and probably can't gather all my thoughts into one group yet.

Remember, I'm posting these because I feel that they are equally or more important than the extra new features comming in v1.2 (mainly the offline chat) and should be added before continuing on to these new grounds.

Bugs: (I'll be posting these in the technical forum after v1.1 is out and I had a chance to confirm whether any of them are fixed or not, but until then I'm just trying to rally support, so I'm posting them here first.)

1: Objects which are close together will be in an incorrect spot when first seen. This is only fixed when you click on the object. This problem has been around forever and has yet to be fixed or even admitted to being worked on.

2: Object ghosting seems to be back in full force with our latest release, with even sounds ghosting after an object had been de-rezzed.

3: The imfamous "loading contents..." bug has been worked on so that you'll get an error message saying "blah blah couldn't load, please try again", but this is so not working correctly. It's really strange that I can line up 5 objects each with the same contents, any 4 of them can load up the contents perfectly but when I click on the 5th, it's stuck on "loading contents...".
There are in-fact 2 versions of this bug, one where it's stuck forever and one where by hitting "new script" and saving that new script will bring up the contents, which leads me to a feature suggestion which would fix half of this bug, but we'll save that for another day.

4: If my face doesn't see it, my camera doesn't see it. What I mean by this is, if I'm at a 4 corner event (good example was the past one with Cory) and I am looking into the general direction of only 1 sim, the other 3 will all suddenly disappear behind me until I turn my avatar around to look at them again. This might be a feature of some sort but I think it should also have a preventable option.

5: Getting stuck on sim lines due to the fact that you're wearing an attachment and one of the sims is having an issue with you is somthing I'm sure a lot of us are experiencing as of late.

Featureless features: (I'll be posting these in the feature request forum after v1.1 is out and I had a chance to confirm whether any of them are included or not, but until then I'm just trying to rally support, so I'm posting them here first.)

1: Our avatars make funny little poses as we simply stand still. Well, I guess you can't say we stand still, since our avatars keep getting some strange urge to put their hands on their hips or only one hand on a hip or somthing crazy like that. This feature was a surprise to many people and to this day is still slightly annoying, since it can show one sort of emotion (2 hands on hips) when really some other emotion is being conveyed through the chat. What's further surprising is that I can't manipulate these poses, not even though gesture scripting. Please fix this before v1.2 (or just give us custom gestures, whatever :D)

2: Customizable hotkeys. I'm going to simply assume this is going to come out along with the new v1.2 GUI. If it isn't, why not?! ;)

3: On the scripting side of things, can we please be allowed to take more controls than the mouse buttons and the directional keys?

4: The ability to turn off transaction messages would sure be awfully nice! Along with this suggestion I really think we need some sort of official SL bank where we can keep our money locked away so that if people have gambling games, they can work off the bank (and not give us those stupid transaction messages) or work off a separate account and have another account in the same bank so you can't go completely bankrupt. I know it's a much more complex and difficult system, but really, if we can't have an official bank, then object/people banking is gonna be the alternative.

5: Part bug, part feature, we need a relog button for Second Life, so that when we do hit a bug, we don't need to completely restart the client! I don't know exactly how SL is built so perhaps it's impossible to have a relog button, but if it is possible, please let us have it!

Okay there's definitely more I have to add, but if you can think of a bug/feature that we've been asking for for a long time but have yet to receive and wish it was out prior to v1.2 or at least at the same time as v1.2 and (most importantly) believe it is just as, if not more, important as the new offline chat abilities, then go ahead and post it here.

Hm I agree with most posted except your first bug. That has improved dramatically since I started, and in fact I can't remember the last time I experienced it. It was definatly more than a couple releases ago. What I get more often is objects that are there not showing up until I bump into em a few times. Maybe thats just me though (on both counts?).

agreed, if these problems were fixed (expecually the hands on the hip problem, make for poor pics >.< ) SL would be overall bettter bug-wize.

Dont forget the horrendous stuck between sims bug.
It usually happens when you are wearing attachments but sometimes I find myself unable to move and I notice that one of my coords is negative. And I wasnt even flying, I was editing land at the Natoma-Minna border. I could go back to normal Natoma coords but I couldnt leave that sim or even teleport.
So I gave up, released my land and logged off :\
If most of the workarounds for all the bugs involve relogging, why wont you PLEASE give us a giant RELOG button somewhere! You shouldnt have to close and reopen the whole program in order to reconnect to the servers... it takes ages to load.

Si, I suggested that long ago and someone responded "Lindens have more faith in their software then that..."

No, we really need a giant relog button somewhere :)

I for one like that we move around and pose when we're standing still. It makes people seem more alive.

I want to be able to pick my "idle" poses. Body language, real or virtual sends subconcious messages. Personally I don't care for ones like "hands on hips" if only for perception of attitude. Lindens are so great about reading and implimenting real world stuff (I'm 3/4 through "The Tipping Point";). Please read about body language!

Oh yea and spell check in the forums please!

The only problem I have with putting my hands on my hip, is that I often stab myself with a weapon...

Ok guys, thanks for your contributions, I'm keeping them all on a notecard and will, post v1.1, write up two huge threads, one for the technical forum and one in the feature suggestion forum. If you still want to add feature/bug to the list that you believe we've asked for for an incredibly long time then please keep adding to the list here and I'll be sure to have them posted in the future posts.

All the future posts will need are enough replies from the general population to get our demands fully met to make v1.2 what the people of SL really want, rather than some new chat options. I'm not saying the new options are a bad idea or that I dislike them, but I really truly feel that after v1.1, we should crack down on things that have been bothering us for a long time.

When v1.1 comes out, be sure to spread the news and links to the two threads, that will help extremely (as long as you agree with my views, and trust me, I'm trying to make them all as flexible as possible for those who may disagree otherwise). Talk to ya all later (and keep watching this thread pre-1.1 as I'll update the huge list when I get additions).

I have a problem with that first bug all the time. My place in hawthorne has my floor lines up JUST perfectly close together, so they are not over lapping (I hate texture bleeds), and everytime I log and I'm at my place, I see cracks in the floor. I have to either click on the floors, or walk up to the crack for it to go away and be properly aligned. The rest of the bugs aren't too much o f a big deal to me, but every time I login to SL, I plan on clicking every piece of my floor.

I dare not to look at my roof.

I, too see cracks in my build till I approach or edit-touch the prims. This is true even between linked pims. It can be quite obvious in my Timeplunge building since the inner walls are ll blacked out. A crack shows up as a flickering dotted line in the darkness.

And I often have holes in the landscape or missing prims. I'm guessing that it's a case of missing packets, but the holes will sometimes never fill in on their own. I have to go a few sims away so they de-cache, then come back and hope I don't get new ones. Olive is the worst culprit when it comes to landscape holes.

The shifting floor/ride prims have a case of the worst building bug out there... object drift ::shudder::

This is the single most annoying bug I find with building. LL, fix! Now! :p

The first thing I'd like to see is better organization to our inventories. Perhaps even a storage area for items we rarely use, so that we don't have to keep downloading them everytime we log on. A move to folder option would be nice along with shift clicking to select a range of items.

Pet peeve here.. I don't like that all snapshots that others gives me defaults to the Texture folder. Its annoying and makes finding your real textures hard, and the list just gets longer and longer unless you delete them.

The offline chat messenger would be a nice feature. I would like the ability to make myself appear offline if I so choose, or only allow certain IM's to come through from certain people when I'm very busy with other things.

I'm probably pushing it here but I'm going to say it anyway
:D . I'd like to a way to organize my inventory offline, then synchronize it on the servers. Finding time to keep my inventory straight online is hard with so many intteruptions, and uses up the resources. If we could do this offline then synchronize, that would be wonderful. This may not be possible but its a feature I'd love to see.
