There have been reports of crashing with the X3100 in a laptop.
There's a supposed fix at http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-4330 . It is possible that this has been fixed by now, perhaps someone else has more current info. Might be useful to say exactly what model you are considering. _____________________

Perhaps if you said how much you can spend people could offer some useful suggestions in that price range.

buy the X3100 is a better version of some of the reccomended cards I misread your first post... I was thinking Intel GMA X3100 not the ATI X3100.. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-X3100.2176.0.html |

Is there such a thing as an ATI Radeon X3100?
The closest model number I can find at the Toshiba site, Satellite® Notebook Family: L350 Series, says it has the Intel X3100. I don't think there is such a thing as an ATI Radeon X3100. I see a number of places listing what the OP listed, but I suspect there mey be a repeated error. _____________________

I think the Bestbuy ad has an error.
I think it's the Intel X3100 that it really has, the one that is a problem with SL. I don't think there is an ATI Radeon X3100. You could check the Toshiba and ATI sites. This is as close as I can get at the Toshiba site: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cmod.to?coid=-35451 Sorry for the now confusing deleting of posts that may have actually have been relevant. I should have know to just edit rather than delete. It's like accounting. _____________________

Make absolute sure that card is in that laptop before you buy it. It maybe a typo and it is a ATI X300... I can find no information on a ATI X3100 anywhere including AMD/ATIs own site.

I found a ATI 3100... No x in front of it. I kinda doubt it is better than the ones I recommended and deleted earlier...

Tigerdirect shows that exact model with the Intel X3100 , not a Radeon 3100 .
Pretty confusing. _____________________

As mentioned and deleted, there have been reports of crashing, but supposedly it's possible to fix the problem.
I would try to find some other systems in that price range and post them here before buying the Toshiba if it has an Intel X3100. _____________________

Perhaps Osgeld should step in with an Ibuypower recommendation.
It's entirely possible that the first model you mentioned does actualy have a Radeon 3100. That's what it says in this review of the L355D-S7815 at http://review.zdnet.com/laptops/toshiba-satellite-l355d-s7815/4505-3121_16-33155829.html?subj=fdba&part=rss&tag=MR_Laptops . _____________________
