in the past 24 hours i have camped and danced on dance pads to earn $L. i should have seen a total of $13L credited to me after all this. and yet nada. i got it credited before a few weeks ago. am i doing something wrong other than just standing up? or being kicked off because i have reached payout limit?

Not only wasting your time, but wasting your electricity, computer life, electrons, causing world poverty, global warming, cats and dogs having sex...

Camping will not generally earn you as much as you will spend in RL in electricity running your computer that long, unless you run camping bots. And these days that's a good way to get permabanned.

24 hours... i should have seen a total of $13L credited to me after all this. L$13 is just under US$0.20. Not even 20 cents... _____________________

Anyway, to the OP, you'll make more money walking down the street looking for dropped change. Really. _____________________

well what a rip. why even have that then. You talk like camping is somehow a deliberate feature of Second Life. It is absolutely not. Like most content and activities in-world, camping was invented by residents. All that happened was one day, somebody figured out that if they could find a way to keep more avatars on their property for longer periods, they could get a higher traffic rating. And rather than actually bother to create content enticing enough or host events compelling enough to make people actually want to stay of their own volition, this person decided it would be easier just to bribe people. They put a script in a chair, advertised for people to come get free money for sitting, and the rest is history. That's it, and that's all. Linden Lab has always frowned upon the practice, as does the majority of the community. Hence, the "rippping" you got here for mentioning it. It's a VERY common reaction. just irritates me that it worked before and now, no go. Take it up with whomever owns the camping chair you were sitting in. It's that person, and that person alone, who determines how much his or her chair does or does not pay you. In any case, I would submit that it probably never actually "worked". Let's apply a little common sense reasoning to the subject, shall we? If you've got an average desktop computer with an LCD monitor consumes somewhere between 150 and 600 watts of electricity, depending on what's under the hood. SL users tend to have beefier computers than average, but just for the sake of argument, let's just put yours somewhere below the middle, and say it uses only around 350. The average cost per kilowatthour in the US is about 11.4 cents. Some quick and obvious division tells us that that means the average computer costs about 4 cents per hour, or 96 cents per 24-hour day, to run. That's the rough equivalent of L$250. So, in order to break even on camping, you need to bring in at least L$250 for every 24 hours that you do it. To make a profit, you obviously need to bring in more than that. Yet you're upset that you didn't get your L$13. Look, in every 24-hour period that you DO take in your precious L$13, you're losing 91 cents, as $L13 is worth a nickel. If your forum profile is any indication, you've been in SL for about six weeks. If you've spend even a quarter of that time doing these 24-hour camping sessions for L$13, then you've lost about 13 bucks so far. Had you used that to buy L$ like you're supposed to, you'd have about L$3400 in your account right now. jacks. guess i'll chalk it up to a lesson learned. Well, I hope so. Here's some further food for thought. If you really want Linden Dollars, then consider the following: Get a job at your local McDonald's and work for one hour. You'll earn $7-10, depending on the wage where you live. Again, let's meet somewhere below the middle, and call it $8. After taxes, it will probably be about $6.50. That's enough to power your computer for about a week. Work a second hour, and now you've got another $6.50, which is totally disposable for $L. That will translate to about $L1700. At L$13 a day, you'd need to camp for over 4 months to make that much. And your job did it for you in 2 hours. Work a full 8-hour day, and you'll be able to buy around $L13,500. That's more than you'd take in in 2.8 years of camping! Look, even if you forget about the fact that you're losing money on electricity, L$ are so ridiculously cheap, there's absolutely no reason to consider camping. Grab some loose change from between your sofa cushions, and you've got enough real cash to buy several hundred Linden Dollars, if not several thousand. _____________________
