kill newview.exe quicker

Sometimes when SL crashes, it won't die. If I right-click its taskbar button and hit Close, I'll get a popup with some nonsense about a debugger. And SL lives. Then I go into Task Manager and attempt to end its process. Won't let me. SL lives on. Meanwhile, watching it in Task Manager I see it climbing up up up the Mem useage pole. Is there a cmd line doohicky that can be used at times like this to kill off newview? (I used to have "kill" but don't any more -- would that actually do the trick?)
