my pc is working fine with SL,so i bought my husband a laptop so he could join me in world, now im not technical but i will try my best to list what kind of laptop it is.. first to explain what is happening when he logs in..
he gets this msg: ( your system contains a graphics card that is unknown to us at this time. this is often the case with new hardware we haven't had a chance to test. second life will most likely run properly, but you may need to adjust your graphics settings to something more appropriate. (edit menu< preferences< graphics).
So i did adjust the graphics in world but it made no difference, its moving really slow, some things are still grey, and even typing a msg out can take it time.
Is this a problem with my husbands laptop, or is it that linden labs have not yet updated for windows7?. i will list what i think you will need to know to help me.

OS :windows 7 home premium 64-bit
processor: intel pentium processor T4300
(2,1GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache)
LCD: 15.6" HD Aser cinecrystal LCD
graphics: intel GMA 4500M
up to 796 MB DVMT
memory: 2 GB
storage: 160GB HDD
optical drive: DVD-super multi DL drive.
RAM: 2.00GB
display adapters: mobile intel(R) series express chipset family.

I hope this information is enough, if not please state what else you would need to know,
(can you make it fool proof)lol.. i would appreciate any reply s. thank you.

It is not a terribly powerful laptop for SL. There are a couple of things you can do to help.

First, try pressing CTRL-ALT-D to bring up the Advanced menu. A pop-up window will ask if you are sure you want to do this, tell it yes. Under the new menu, go to Rendering and select "Run Multiple Threads." That will squeeze a little more performance out of the processor.

The main problem you have is the GPU, which can't handle much of SL's advanced rendering. Playing with video sliders and unchecking reflections will help some. You can also try using an alternate viewer.

Go to http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/ and you will find links to several alternate viewers that can access Second Life. One is the Rainbow Viewer, which is designed for netbooks. The other is the Cool Viewer 1.19.0.5 R59 (legacy and fast non-Windlight renderer).

These improve performance by cutting out some of the advanced visuals that are not really showing up on a low end system anyway, and optimizing the code for performance on older computers.

The main problem with your graphics is that it shares memory with the system. So of your 2 GB, the video card can reserve 796 MB, leaving you 1.2 GB for SL and everything else running on your system. If you can put more memory into your laptop, it will help.

Immediately, I'd say it's the Intel graphics. Nvidia was quick to handle OpenGL compatibility, but the native Win7 drivers MS put in for Nvidia chips don't work. I've been hearing a lot of ATI users having more trouble than before after upgrading to Win7. I seriously doubt Intel has done any better. (>_<;)

Do what you can to see if Intel has updated your graphics chip drivers in any way and really get a replacement for the native Windows graphics drivers. If not, go Nvidia. (^_^)

Though... It's a laptop... If you can't find drivers, guess what creek you're up without a paddle? (T_T)

It's a laptop. You're stuck with that graphics chip and whatever drivers are compatible with it. You have an Intel chip. Look for Intel drivers to replace the Microsoft drivers. So far, the Microsoft drivers that come with Win7 do not work with SL. (^_^)y

If you bought that lappy new, try to exchange it to a model without Intel graphics. ATi sucks too but not as much as Intel does. Both, Intel and ATi are not properly supported by SL or use more or less incompatible drivers.
