I am currently taking a Spanish class in SL and would like to be able to type in Spanish using the extra symbols, etc. that Spanish includes.
I am using a PC with the XP Home Edition. I've gone through numerous tutorials to add Spanish by going to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options and following the instructions on the tuts. I can manage to add Spanish as a second language with an icon on my task bar that lets me switch from English to Spanish and back, but thus far, the Spanish text is looking no different than English.
Does anyone know something I may be missing here? Thank you in advance for any help.

It looks like English to you, but Spanish to anyone you are typing to. Haven't you ever read "The Emperor Wears No Clothes"?

Are you talking about the menus and stuff? You can flip SL's language setting in its own prefs, general tab, way at the bottom. Most of the translated versions of the SL interface are still works in progress.
In-world stuff rarely has translations unless it's something like an information center. Scripts only got language detection a short while ago, and not a lot of scripters are going to have the resources to do much with it. You might simply try hanging out in some Spanish-speaking places on the grid if you are looking for the immersion thing.

Hi, Viktoria! What I'm talking about is the special symbols that are used with some Spanish words, like a ` over some words that show where the emphasis is and a "squiggly" symbol over some letter n's in Spanish, that are pronounced differently than the regular letter n. There is a way within the control panel of Windows (it works slightly differently in each version) but in XP you access the "Regional and Language Options" from the Control Panel. Within there one can add other languages to Windows. It places an icon on the task bar that can be clicked to switch from one language to another. When I asked my Spanish instructor if she was using a Spanish keyboard, she said she had an English PC/keyboard and just used the steps above which makes it very easy to switch from one language to another. When *she* types in Spanish, all the symbols are there; when I set the options up exactly as I've researched how, they don't, thus my question was if there was some little "tick box" or something I was missing. The best answer I've found thus far is that sometimes the Windows CD needs to be used to pick up the symbols, but I've never been prompted for the CD plus I don't have it because my PC was sold with the booklet, code, and Win XP already installed. I already asked my Spanish instructor for help and she gave the same instructions I already used. Just thought some techie might be able to help. @ Briana: ~~~~~
