hello
i'm writing my master of research thesis on roleplay/community in sl

as an intro to sl i need to be able to put a laypersons description of sl into my intro

i am not sure if i have got it right as i am not a techincal person but cultural theory my Master of Research is Utopian Studies

i have checked the wiki for definitions
i have written

sl is a virtual world, a wold made up of data and pixels that create a visual world via an internet connection
would this be correct?

"sl is a virtual world, a world made up of primitives and drama that create a visual social experiment via an internet connection"

That definition is generally correct. But, it's so broad in scope it only touches the very edge of a definition for SL (or, really any other virtual world). I'm afraid you're not going to get a complete definition of what SL is exactly without a novel length definition........and even then you'll miss some of what SL is to many people.

I see by your join date to the forums you are a little over a year old. That means you have an avatar that is at least the old. Why not use your experience for the last year to arrive at a definition that addresses the topic of your research? That would narrow your definition somewhat and perhaps steer your readers in the correct direction for the roleplay aspect of SL. There are so many aspects you will have a difficult (in not impossible) task of arriving at a complete definition covering everything.

i will be giving 20000 words to describing my experiences within sl,,, the intro just needs a very precise sentence - which is why i just wanted to check

there are many pieces written introducing sl at great length that i will reference for those that want a longer intro
