I recently had hard drive failure and had to replace it with a new one. i reinstalled Windows XP and installed the latest second life client. when i atttempt to launch newlife.exe, i recieve a "Driver Component sizes mismatch error (see attatchment). I have installed the lateds Nvidia drivers and am running DirextX 9,1b which is waht i was running before. I have been unable to find any information in your knowledge base or forums in regards to this issue. Is this a known issue? waht suggestions would you have in trying to correct this?

No, this is not a known issue. A quick google also revealed no useful information on that error on the net. My first guess would be that there is an installation order issue with the nVidia drivers and DX9. Perhaps uninstalling them and reinstalling in the opposite order would have the desired effect? In general, the first line of attack against driver problems is an uninstall and reinstall. Another (albeit unlikely) problem is that there may be a way to install Win XP without properly installing Open GL. www.opengl.org has the Open GL 1.1 installers which need to be on your machine before the nVidia drivers are applied. Hope this helps! Cory

maybe try to uninstall the current troubled drivers. And install known good or one series older drivers, and see if it repeats. Could be a compatability issue between the new direct x and nvidia drivers along with SL.

How do I spell Relief?... "Second Life"
01-03-2003 00:23
nd i feel as if i have a second life now,,,, I tool many attempts and scenarios, however i did manage to get the logon screen to launch now. although It is too late to actually log in, am feelin i should be ok.
I reviewed several tech docs and websites that were suggested, (thanks much!) I uninstalled, re-installed, uninstalled, re-installed, uninstalled, re-installed, drivers, DirectX versions and order scenarios and evetually (about my last scenario of course) found a setup that worked, it looks like this,
1. Uninstall Drivers, roll back DirectX to Windows XP inbox version 8.1a and ininstall Secondlife.
2. Upgrad DirextX to version 8.1b
3. Install Nvidia DetonatorXP drivers 29.42
4. Updrad Nvidia drivers to version 30.82
5. Install Secondlife client version 2.5 <JACKPOT>
As i reflect back at the steps, I can see the simularities in the scenario path with what my other system had taken, however; I do find it amazing that any other scenario including installing and upgrading Drivers and DirectX to the latest versions before installing SL reproduced this issue.
Haven't installed DX 9.0 at this point and think i will hlod off for now as i would like to confirm i can actually login. has there been anyn reported issues with DX 9.0? asking because it was just recently released.
Anywhoot.... I hope to see everyone again soon. it has been a long (and frustrating at times) week..
