How often should you defragment? Also, will it help Second Life's performance?

Every single time you boot up, and depending on how long it's been since you last defragged (especially the cache and virtual memory), anywhere from not at all, to vastly. (Speaking from the 'vastly' point of experience.)

You should download and install Sysinternals' pagefile defragger. Set it to run every time you boot up. The rest of your files aren't as important, but it's still a good idea to run Windows defrag pretty regularly.

There have been people on the SL forums who have posted, complaining that their computer is unusally slow. After installing and running that the pagefile defragger, they've been astounded to discover that their 1GB pagefile had 500+ fragments.

See my troubleshooting page here for more ideas on improving performance or stability.

500+? I get that from just two weeks of computing.

Try my 4K+. Now -that- was something. :)

That's kind of alarming, Moleculor. :p
I take it you use a pagefile defragmenter? :)
