I've never been able to install SL without admin rights. SL installs by default in C:\program files. It always has. To install there, it requires admin permissions. I think there is a way to install it to a different location

If you need admin rights... might want to check who the admin is?

If you need admin rights (like at work) I'd suggest scrap the idea. First thing they will ask is why you need those rights. It is used to prevent installation of spyware and viruses and honestly most admins won't release control.

all our systems has been on Windows XP for a while now, its just irritateing that now finnaly second life out of nowhere requires you to be in a admin account to install it, when i can clearly remember most of the other versions of the second life installers not even doing the "requesting permissions" part that takes a few seconds during the install.

Were your computers just upgraded with XP Service Pack 2? SP2 tightens the security in XP and may cause some of the problem.

I also think it has to do with service pack 2.
I recently updated xp to sp2 and also changed to the ntfs file system. And after that i noticed the "requesting permissions" before install. _____________________

Switching to the NTFS file system may also trigger "requesting permissions" messages. One of the features of NTFS is that it is a more secure file system than FAT (which DOS and Windows 9x/Me used).

Two step solution:
1. Buy your administrator a nice lunch. 2. Ask him/her to install SL for you. _____________________

As I understand things, there's no plan for anyone except Administrators (and other accounts that generally have the right to install software) to be able to *install* Second Life on Windows platforms.
