distant recalls of Second Life emerging
slipping into patterns ...
nudging their way between neurons
filling up memory spaces ...
i went on line searching ...
and then
stumbled across this site
http://obijan.com/av/index.php?mode]http://obijan.com/av/index.php?mode[/highlight]
the title of the page is Second Life Avatar Search
and included the following statement:
Search our database of 2624571 Second Life avatar names
for a specific one, or use our reports to examine the larger trends.
curious, i entered my first name in search
and in just a couple of clicks my profile came up:
Arsenic Soyinka
Avatar Name: Arsenic Soyinka
Birthday: 2005-11-30

10 others with first name "Arsenic"

i was struck by the emergence of this data
Birthday? - Payment Status? - KeY? (what is that?, i thought)
Last seen online? (why?, who would want to know or care?)
(plus, i had always thought i was the first "Arsenic" on SL)
i then went to the main page, obijan.com, to snoop around
there are 3 links there.
most notably
1. Second Life Products, offering for sale Huds,
a Scanning Drone, and a Professional Online Indicator,
which indicates the online status of anyone on SL
2. Second Life Stats, having 2 links to Avatar Stats & Region Stats.
- AVATAR STATS lists categories of data on Avatar Statistics

im sure one could conjure up all kinds of thoughts and theories
based upon data like this being so easily accessible ... i did
is all this simply harmless,
or reflections of loss of privacy, freedom, and Big Brotherhood?
it didnt take me long after joining SL to realize
i really didnt like Second Life ... simply becos ...
its too much like Real Life , if not worse
and i am constantly amused by those who dont seem to mind
intensely dealing simultaneously with the intense problematic issues
common to both worlds ... and far too many to list here
and amused by those who are desperate, needy and dependent
... on interaction and relationships ... on recognition and validation
and for the majority in the bigger picture, participation of citizenship,
is acceptance, compliance, and apathy.
and perhaps this easily accessible data is not in the least threatening,
but good for ones ego and sense of self worth, crucial to a feeling of
acceptance and credibility
oh the horrors of being invalid, and the coming One World Government,
UFO's, Aliens from other Planets, and the destruction of Religious Cultures!
if Second Life is merely a Game, then how come Real Life isnt?
or is it?
.
