The Subject line says it all.
Last night I had 3 separate instances where I couldn’t see the AV, only the name. The fix was the same as before, they had to go into “Appearance” mode.

I can report this also. Several times (although much LESS that in .4.3) yesterday a single avatar would be invisible when I flew into an area. Fixed by the 'normal' means.
This bug still persists, but far less than before .5, where I could fly to an area and ALL 5-6 avatars would be invisible.

For me it's just the opposite.. When I was at Ben's April Fools boat thingy event, I was talking with Dave who was around 20-30 meters away from everyone else. Eventually, I made my way over to the 6 or 7(?) people at the boating area, and I could only see ONE out of all of em. I've also been having a problem where even if I just turn my back and turn around to face a person again, they'll have turned invis. Just see the green nametags and that's it. So for me, it's kinda worse than it was in .4.

This appears to be an old thread, but I am still seeing this problem quite frequently with current (1.1. SL. In just about any crowd of AVs there will always be one or two that are invisible. Any accessories they are wearing are visible. Usually their name is visible, but occasionally that will be invisible. Having that person open and close their Appearance window always fixes the problem.

Encountered this today after teleporting home... arrived invisible to myself, except for jewellery. Others could still see my full avatar. Unfortunately I was unable to open Appearance menu to fix it, even through Edit mode.

I think that's a different bug, Myradyl. I know which one you mean, though. I've had it happen a couple times, but I think the last time I saw it was during beta. I don't know if it was ever fixed.
If I remeber correctly, the original invisible bug (and Son of Invisible Bug, Grey Bug) were actually something like 5 or 6 completely unrelated problems, all of which had the same effect.
I'm told by a few people that the invisible bug didn't go away at all, but I never noticed it until a couple weeks ago. Perhaps it's actually two bugs, and the reason more people are noticing it now is because one of them is much more common than the other?

I used to see invisible avatars pre 1.1 with their names above their heads. (I remember my fist building class, the host, Bob Bunderfeld, was just a few floating prims and a name. At the time, I noobieshously thought that he MEANT to look (or not look) like that.)
But now I don't even get the names, and even attachments are iffy.

Wait till 1.4... I entered an area with 20-30 people and could only see 4 of them. And EVERYTHING I deleted turned into a ghost.
...But I could MOVE great! Looks like we've traded one set of bugs for another.

There is another workaround for invisible avs...
If there are invis avs around you, change your active group... 9 times out of 10 they suddenly appear.

If there are invis avs around you, change your active group... 9 times out of 10 they suddenly appear. O.o That just sounds, wrong to me. I was at an event a couple nights ago with Sue (hi, Sue!) when she was having this problem. While I could see the guy that she couldn't, I did notice that (to me) the guy was perpetually stuck in a frame of what looked like a running animation. (Leaning forward) I said something to him about it, as did Sue, and he went and flew around awhile to see if it would fix the animation problem. When he came back (he never actually left my sight), not only was the animation problem fixed, but Sue could suddenly see him! I think these two bugs are related. Also, I've noticed that every once in awhile my av goes "knock-kneed" on me. i.e. the engine places his center-of-gravity too low, so that his legs have to fold up to fit between his waist and the ground. At the town hall the other night (Philips) I noticed that Haney seemed to have the same knock-kneed problem. As I moved my camera around the area to get different views of the group, I noticed that at certain angles/distances (less than 20m), Haney's av would completely disappear. And sometimes Philip would disappear on me, too. (Although he wasn't knock-kneed.) I'm wondering if whatever bug is causing the knock-kneed effect is also responsible for some of the disappearing avs.

The group change trick works for me most of the time.
