Yeah, at least extend dummy regions around the given continent. It would not only serve as a boating area but flying from one place to another in a strait line would be easier. :)

Lets have a sea sim !

How about a sim that is all water and cannot be edited. Like it allows you to build but not higher that 10m below water level?

This would allow water craft to use it and players to build underwater structures also.

Also great for diving, How about an attachment that keeps you underwater level unless ground level is higher that water level?

Subs would be great here also.

I just wish the 2-3 obstacles that exist in the only path between the northern-most sims to the southern-most sims could be removed in some way...

Garth,

At the moment, if part of any object goes below 7m it goes offworld and ends up in your Lost and Found folder.

I'm hoping that the Lindens will do something about this before I use up all my prim allocation and can't build any more.

Ditto all this.

Several of us set-up in Welsh with the idea to keep it as much water based as possible. But this involves grabbing up and owning a lot of land thats underwater (In real life when you do this you are laughed at). The new sims, which don't allow the terrain to be edited much, if at all, might be a better way to go. For people in those sims they only have to buy the LAND they want to use and they can count on the water staying water. Unfortunately I don't think they can count on people not buying water and just covering it up with things that don't normally belong over water (like large castles made from 10 ton carved rocks). We'll see how that goes.

But ultimately there needs to be a way to have water that is undeveloped and free to traffic. I don't know any way that this can happen with the current system other than volunteer efforts such as we have in Welsh. A bigger problem will be that of Sim differences making the map look like a checkerboard. Waterways don't just go 500 meters and then come to a sudden dead end along a straight line, so waterways need to cross sim boundaries in a natural way, as do hills (mountains are out of the question for the moment I think, just not enough space). Again, the non-editable land might solve this, if you can keep people from buying the waterways.

Yes please! This would be a great idea. Sims start out with water, but are soon built up. In some areas the land owners purposely put poles and such to prevent people from boating in the water at all. A free for all ocean with acoiuple of small islands would be great!

Woohoo, open water would be amazing. I am working on a rathr large ocean going vessel but it porbalby will run aground on many of hte riverways :/ I've shelved it for now, in hopes that we will get some open water in the future.

I've been meaning to post about makeing the big hole in the middle of the southern sims a large body of water for a while. To have several sims as one huge body of water could be extremely fun.

I see all of those sims being no build except for perhaps a little island in the center for rezzing boats.

Any other ideas about this?

I'd also like to not capsize and swallow loads of salty sea water whenever crossing sim boundaries at mach 2 in a jet boat.

I agree with all of the above too!

I have wondered about this on many occasions too. Can the enlosed water area just above the southern continent (above and between Rodeo and Seacliff) be turned into one large sea that we could boat on. Linden-owned and no building permitted... just open ocean. What is it about 7-9 sim-sized empty spots? Wouldn't that cut down on the server resources needed if it was only used for traveling across?

As an alternative, if the space has to be distributed in a similar way as the new sims are (auction, land for landless, land rush, etc.), could the area remain completely water with restrictions that one could build or terraform only within say 10 meters of the surface of the water? (This of course being possible only if the current "bug" of objects vanishing below a certain level is fixed.)

first i wanna say that the lindens have vastly increased the amount of preserved waterways in the southern and northeastern sims.you can actually boat from slate to varney now! thank you lindens.

second, our premiere naturist higbee protagonist will be wrestling alligators in the oh geez wrong announcement...

second, our premiere naturist higbee protagonist is working diligently to create a boating channel through zoe and immaculate that will connect the northern and southern systems. good job higbee!

finally, yes ocean sims would be nice. a band of water all the way around the world might be nicer, i think we may end up with that when the next 100 sims are added. i am not a linden.

yes wuld like to see this done, an ocean or sea sim or two. W have two empty Sim slots in the map right next to the river system south south/east of Tehama why could they not be turned into water Sims, with total water content.

BTw is there any way to build underwater and actually exclude the water form inside the structures.. if not, can this be done?

No, it can't really be done. Water in SL is implemented as a sim-wide constant.
I think the water line is usually at 25m, but you can set it to whatever height you desire.
You could try fiddling with lights, if you dont like that underwater look.

You can also Alt + Shift + 7 and remove all water.

Yes! Thank you Lindens for the expanded water areas. This is making boating and submarining (sp?) much more enjoyable. The new island chain sims are very fun to explore by boat.

And the reef area in Vari is beautiful!

Give us an OCEAN around the entire grid. I don't care how you do it but running into a solid wall of nothing at the edge of the world is getting increasingly lame.

Meanwhile come to Tilitr, we have a large expanse of water. We scaled back the island as much as the new tools allow.

There are some racing buoys out and you can have fun racing. There are free boats in the marina to use, a racing boat, a jetstream, a mini-sub and a sail boat. They only work in Tilitr and will de-rez when you leave the sim.

Hello I agree with everyone! I bought alot of minna and Rich and sunk a good protion of it to make a boating area
for all that wanted to boat there again. The people of Minna now have some boating again! Plus a lake and a fjord. Now about how to sail out of Minna? Help!
