HI I need someones help, please.When I log into the game I start to move.
Then in a very short time I start walking into infinity until I get logged out.
Can anyone offer some suggestions?

I have Windows XP. More than enough power, and a good graphics card.
If I have server problems how can I check. Or whatever you might suggest.

What are your exact system specs? "More than enough power and a good graphics card" doesn't mean anything. It's next to impossible to pinpoint problems if you don't list your specs. You'd be surprised how many people who say they have a "good graphics card" actually have a 5 year old bottom of the barrel GeForce 6100 or something, and they think it's "good" because that's what the salesperson at the store said five years ago when they bought it. I'm not saying that's what's going on here. You might have HAL 9000 under your desk for all I know. I'm just saying we can't know unless you tell us. :)

In any case, infinite movement is a sign of extreme latency (lag). It could be a slow or intermittent network connection, too little RAM, too slow of a CPU, or something wrong on the server side.

What is your packet loss when this happens? ctl-shift-1 will open a stats window and show packet loss, among lotsa other things.

If your packet loss is often higher than 0%, try reducing your bandwidth (Preferences/Network).

Technically. the server keeps track of where your avatar is, but the client viewer often tries to help. You start to move, the server moves you, the client tries to move you too. In the server, you stop, the server sends the stop back to the client, but that packet gets lost. The client keeps moving you forever.

Packet Loss etc.
04-03-2009 13:08
Bandwidth = 0
Packet Loss = 0.0%
FPS = 38.5-41.1
Ping = 10000msec
I can list it all if you'd like.

Thanx thus far for the help.

I will answer the other info in a minute.

Ping = 10000msec

Yikes, 10,000 msec, really? Well, that at least quantifies the symptom, even if it doesn't explain the cause. It's taking 10 seconds for each piece of information to travel between you and the sim. It should be around a tenth of a second (100 msec) or less. For some reason, your connection to SL is 100 times slower than it should be.

Try running a traceroute to the sim. If the bottleneck is somewhere on the Internet in between you and the sim, you'll see it. You can get the sim's web address in Help -> About Second Life. It will say something the effect of "sim1234.agni.lindenlab.com". Open up a command prompt, and type "tracert" followed by the address (again, with no quotes).

Also, try resetting your router and your modem. If you're on a wireless connection, try plugging in.

Who's your ISP, by the way?

Hi Lee. Well the technical jargon just thru me over the edge.
I'll have to see our resident geek to have him translate for me.
I'll keep you posted.

Bandwidth 0 and ping = 10,000 indicates that you have lost your network connection completely, at least temporarily. Your packet loss is 0 because there are not any packets 8-)

As Chosen says, your ping time should be low, but I think he is too optimisitc. Only the high end people get 100msec or less. You should be happy with 300 or less, especially if you are far away from the servers (EU, APAC, etc.) If you want to feel lucky, consider my typical ping times of 1500msec (Satellite, and not supported)
