New Graphics Adapter: ATI 4890...Why Are My Frame Rates So Low?

I just swapped out a EVGA 260 GT (16 core) with 896MB of memory for an ATI 4890 w/1GB of memory and with all settings being equal (I have tested side-by-side) my frame rates have gone to hell. Aside from turning off OpenGL VBO in the SL client software when using the ATI card are there some other tweaks out there I am missing? I am really stumped on this one.

Look around for another driver for that card. The most recent might not the best.

I'd get the GTX260 back.

ATI graphics adapters are notorious for poor performance with SL.

ATI's OpenGL drivers don't play well with Second Life.

I'd suggest getting the GTX260 back.

Barring that, try Boy Lane's Rainbow Viewer with the SSE2 patch.
