Athlon 64 4800+ 3GB RAM ATI HD4550 XP SP3
-Have tried with both public and RC versions.
-Tried uninstalling/reinstalling.
-Uninstalling Drivers and contol centre completely, and reinstalling.
-Tried again but using different drivers.
-Just installing the drivers without the control centre.
-Tried using a fix for similar graphics card etc etc etc
-Making SL only use one core
I've looked through every thread about SL crashing on startup, and tried everything, but no dice. The graphics card works completely fine with other 3d programs (budget gamer =D); and I've spent days trying to get AT LEAST a little further along the loading process than what I started with. Apparently It was all in vain <_<
So yeah, any help would be appreciated.

Here's a thread on crashing when initializing multimedia, maybe it will help: /111/df/308544/1.htmlSeems like some folks have solved this problem with uninstalling and reinstalling quicktime, while for others it has been turning off AI in catalyst and turning off vbo and antialising. Which other drivers did you try? What else have you tried, in more detail than "I tried everything"?

Here is what I have tried and working so far
05-12-2009 12:02
I too had a lot of those very same issues, I am now online and have been for over a hour and no crash, Yeah! Here is what I did and I hope it helps. I am running windows Vista 64 bit OS, I have a HD Radeon 4800 series card. Before I was crashing like every 20 minutes or to what seemed when i would get around a lot of sculpty prims. This is what I did and it works. Load client SL window go to edit prefrences graohics tab go to bottom click hardware options unclick the vbo box... Then
go to the windows start icon in your lower tool bar type in system configuration go to boot tab go to advanced click enable processor and memory click ok and apply
THAT DID REALLY WELL TILL THIS LAST UPDATE ON THE 10TH I had to then completly uninstall my ATI catalyst center, uninstall SL, defrag, then go to the AMD site to load the driver, it will ask the info, you tell it , and it directs you to the 9.4 center.. DON'T download that one, scroll to the bottom of the page and go to previous drivers, and Download and install the ATI Catalyst center 8.12, dont reboot yet, go to the sl download of the viewer and install that, then reboot. After days of crashing logon screens it worked, That 9.4 no matter what i did to the thing crashed me . It also took care of all the artifacts flashing around on my screen and Im zooming at 45 frames per second without any problems arouns lots of prims and sculpties.. Im also reading about Cool Viewer that is said to help with the newer end ATI Cards(from boy lane) Rainbow Viewer from what I gather is for the older versions, havent tried and tested it yet as Im too elated to be online and building up a storm, Good luck and hope that helped

I apparently didn't turn off Catalyst completely when I downloaded the ATI Tray Tools 3rd party app that someone on here suggested. I fiddled around with it for a while and... well... SL works now =D
Thanks for all the help and the speedy replies.
