Texture quality reduced when looking

Can someone please tell me why when I look at a certain object it suddenly goes all fuzzy?

I walk into a room and wait for all the textures to load, but when I actually turn to look at an object that has high quality textures it goes all fuzzy again, as if it hadnt downloaded.. If I look away, and then suddenly look at it again its in high quality before snapping back to fuzzy...

Its really annoying and is kinda ruining SL for me..

Can anyone please help ?

That's caused by SL reducing the amount of data sent to the video card in an effort to attempt to display all the textures at that particular viewing angle.

If it's decreasing texture quality when you zoom in on an object, that's the opposite of what it should be doing, though. The only thing I can think of is that when you zoom in, there are just far more textures surrounding it than there would be otherwise.

You can attempt to fix it by going to Edit > Preferences > Options, then if "Video Card Memory" isn't set to the maximum available to you, increase it. That may help. Likewise, reducing your draw distance may also allow you to load fewer textures.

While you're in there, how much video card memory does it say you have? What is the maximum you're able to select?

Well its detected the video ram okay, 32mb, and it set to 32mb. I figured that when looking at only one object though its using less memory as I'm effectively simply viewing a picture. If I look away from that one object so that it displays MORE textures and objects, the one I was looking at snaps back into detail (when I can see about 50% of it)

I have the same issue. I have a Radeon 9700 Pro 128. It was suggested that increasing the video memory and cache size would help, but it didn't. Deleting the SL cache didn't work either.

Edit: I also have the latest Catalyst driver.

I'm baffled.

Are you on an ATI card too, Sugarat?

No, this card is a GeForce 440Go

Its frustrating! Its got all the data and is running smooth and fast, but when I look at the object it wont show any detail.

Back when I was fighting my radeon tooth and nail, I turned down the memory size to prevent texture corruption. 32 MB usually resulted in this kind of stuff, I imagine in order to fit in as many textures as possible within the limited space. 16 MB resulted in blurry textures everywhere.

But thats the odd thing. When looking ONLY at a single object, that reduces the amount of textures it needs to display, - to only a single one. Then, when looking at loads of different things, therefore INCREASING the number of things the video card needs to display, it comes back into focus.

Its the opposite of what should be happening here.
