I have put in my moms group notices about her, they don't even go out to all in the group. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong at first but people I talked too said they are having the same issues since this update yesterday. I also don't have live help in game no more :( . Can someone tell me where live help is now?

Sending Group Notices (Workaround)
04-26-2007 11:44
As many of you will know, sending Group Notices in SL is balked for large groups. However a workaround is avaliable and so far has proven to be successful (is saying that tempting fate?!)

Please refer to https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-37 for further details about this issue, and, if you haven't already voted PLEASE do so...

THE WORKAROUND

1. Log into SL and remove all prims, including hair, shoes, AO, HUDs, jewelery etc etc. Your AV should have no prims attached.

2. 'Edit | Groups' and 'Activate' the group tag from which you wish to send the Notice.

3. Log out of SL.

4. Compose the body of the Notice in Notepad or any other simple word processing application. Do not apply any text formatting. Save the file but keep this application open with the text avaliable.

5. Open the SL client browser but do not 'Connect'.

6. Click the 'Preferences' button.

7. Click the 'General' tab and ensure that 'Show Start Location on Login Screen' is checked.

8. Click the 'Network' tab.

9. Click the 'Clear Cache' button.

10. Click the 'Close' button.

11. Click 'OK'.

12. Do not 'Connect' but instead click the small red 'Exit' icon at the top-right of the client browser window to close it entirely.

13. Re-open the SL client browser but do not 'Connect'

14. At the 'Start Location' dropdown at the bottom-left of the window, click the small downward-pointing arrow and select 'Type region name'.

15. Overwrite 'Type region name' with "io" (without the quotes). That is, the letter "i" followed by the letter "o".

16. Click 'Connect'.

17. On connection to the region, move a few meters away from the landing point.

18. Wait until the region has downloaded. Be patient. This may be 5 mins or more.

19. Click 'Edit | Groups | Info | Notices | Create New Notice'

20. Enter a Notice Subject line.

21. Copy and paste the body of the text from the simple word processing application into the 'Message' area of the Notice.

22. Add attachment to the Notice, if required.

23. With the region downloaded, watch the 'Packet Loss' indicator. When the indicator shows zero or near-zero packet loss, click the 'Send Notice' button.

24. Do not close the 'Group Information' dialog box or any other window. Bearly even breathe.

25. Within a few mins you should receive your copy of the Group Notice.

26. Rejoice.

27. Close the 'Group Information' dialog box and re-attach your hair real quick.

Well Noy Nothing about Groups Works

Without the ability to interact with your group there is no group. Evidently Lindens think this is ok. IT IS NOT OK!

Thats the workaround that has been found to be successful and is used by a number of Groups. You will often see bald people waddling around the centre of region "io" sending Group Notices.

Sorry that it is confusing to you but there it is; until Linden apply the fix that is the only reliable and consistant way that a number of *large* groups have found to send Notices (was only recently aware that this issue has now started affecting smaller groups too).

If you do discover an easier, reliable and consistant workaround please let us know :).....

Thanks for this workaround... we tried sending out a few notices last night, and no luck. Today, I found this post... followed it step by step... and success! Thanks! :-)

I was able to send one last night without any problem, but Sunday it was all screwed up. If you have a short group notice, a simpler work-around is to create a proposal and then type the text of your notice into the proposal.

The brokenness of groups, especially for large groups, is getting destructive now that we have IM spamming from people leaving the session.

I no longer even try to use Notices with my large group and just use the Proposal feature instead. It appears that Notices, which were broken originally only for large groups, are now broken for many groups of different sizes.

Folks, if you're interested in these issues, please vote for (and leave comments about) bug fixes related to Group tools at jira.secondlife.com. These include broken Notices, group IM's not working properly, no way to silence group IM sessions, and other issues affecting the ability of large groups to function. To vote, first sign into jira with your Second Life avie name and then go to the links.

Also, if you can make it to the upcoming town hall, please go and comment! I wish I could but I have to be at my RL job then.

Many thanks!
