PCI Graphics Card?

My PC has no AGP slot...is there a PCI graphics card I can use, or any workaround whatsoever? I get 10 fps as is, but that drops when there's a lot of action.

Ouch.

Well, I'd have to say that to squeeze 10fps out of a PCI card, you're probably doing pretty well. There are some PCI options out there, like a GeForce FX 5200 in PCI, but I have an AGP one of those and barely get above 15fps in windowed mode with a lot of details turned off. I have a GeForce MX 440 PCI board kicking around for some of my multimonitor tinkering, but I really wouldn't know how something like that would perform. Probably not very well.

Depending on what you have now, you might be doing about the best you can reasonably expect to get from a PCI card. If you happen to have onboard video that uses AGP, you may even be well above the power a PCI board could push.

Hm. Well, if you have access to something like a CompUSA, you might be able to pick up a PCI GeForce MX 440 like I mentioned for under fifty bucks. But if your machine doesn't have an AGP slot, I'd seriously have to say (and I know it sucks) that you might want to save for an AGP capable machine instead of spending $100 on a -good- PCI card. :/

I had to tell my nephew the same thing, he was not happy.

Thanks Alexander, I just underestimated my interest in online gaming when I bought this computer. I didn't even know what an AGP slot was.

Most people buying a machine these days run into the same problem, sadly. It may not be AGP they lack, but it's always something. That's why the die-hards like me and others are around, we'll help you fix your computer. ;) Or, if we have a "No, I Will Not Fix Your Computer" shirt on, we're on break.

What kind of machine is it, do you know any of the specifications? Maybe there are other things that can be considered. If it's a standard enough case, you -might- be able to just replace a motherboard unless it's something like a Dell, or Gateway or HP, etc.
