Hey, I really need some help.. Last night I opened SL, and the cache somehow cleared itself, and everything had been set to the defaults again, and since then NOTHING is loading, I can't move, I'm a cloud, and I see nothing but sky and ocean, sometimes I don't even see myself or the sky, I just see the ocean from a weird camera angle, sometimes I can see some terrain or people but it keeps disconnecting and saying "View Chat" or "Close", I've reinstalled 3 times, I just bought a premium account and want to use it, please help.

System specs might be of some value.

Also, I don't know my system specs, I'm not very good with computers, not compared to most people here atleast. :\ |

Time to take it the nearest computer shop I think Badger. Get the computer technician to sort it out for you. Most of us do this with our cars, televisions, fridges and other appliances when they break. When we think of our computers as simply another household appliance then it makes sense to get it fixed by a repairer and not bother trying to do it ourselves.
Don't know about where you live but I can get these kinds of problems sorted for about $60. Of course the shop tries to up-sell me every time I do put an appliance in for repair, but so does my garage mechanic and television repairman but thats just the way that goes. |

You can do as Airt said and take it to a shop.......however I believe that would be mostly a waste of time and money. Unless that computer shop has a highspeed internet connection and either lets you log into SL or you give the shop your password so they can log in.........the latter is a big no no in my view. They have to be able to duplicate the problem in order to fix the problem. I don't believe any repair shop is going to fix what they cannot see..........and they won't see a problem. They may "find" somthing to charge you for but you'll bring that computer home to find you still have the issue.
Without computer specs anyone here is going to have a big problem helping you fix what you are experiencing. If you don't know your computer specs there is an excellent free program that will tell you everything you need to know about your computer. The program is called Belarc Advisor and has the highest ratings from several well known computer publications (including PC Magazine)..........it's a safe program to have and run on your computer. The download page and information is here: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html You don't want to simply copy and paste your results after running the program as it contains a lot of personal information that would not be wise to put on a public forum. What people need to know is just general information like: Operating System (including the service pack installed) Processor (including your CPU speed) RAM (or system memory) Graphics (including any video RAM) Graphics driver version Your Second Life version Everything except your video driver version and your Second Life version will be listed for you by Belarc Advisor. To find your video driver open your Device Manager, click on the Dispay Adaptors tab, and then clicking on your video card/chipset. That will bring up another box for the device.........click on the Driver tab and your driver version will be listed (if you are using an nVidia card the last 5 digits will be the commonly used number for your driver.....but listing the whole number will be okay too. Most here can figure it out). To find your SL version simply launch the program. Once the log in page appears your version number will be listed at the bottom right corner of the page (that is if you are using one of the official veiwers.........I'm not sure it the 3rd party viewers show the version on the log in page). I've made the assumption that you are using a Windows based computer. Somthing to try also since it is a common issue for a lot of people. Reset your modem and/or router. Do that by unplugging both devices from the electrical source and leaving them unplugged for at least 3 mins (5 is better). Then plug them back in.........once the little lights settle to a normal blinking the devices are reset. It's not absolutely necessary to shut down your computer but sometimes the computer will not connect back up after the modem/routers come back online and you would have to restart your computer to get them to connect again (well you can manually connect but that's a pain in the butt.......rebooting is so much easier). I would suggest you shut down before you reset your modem or router. Try it.....it takes less than 10 mins and often solves the problems. |
