At random intervals, my connection to SL drops. Sometimes it's minutes, sometimes it's hours, SL randomly stops responding and then soon tells me I've lose my connection. While this happens, my connection to the Internet is fine.
Further mystery- sometimes I run two accounts side by side. Two monitors, two accounts logged in. Half the time, only one of the two accounts gets disconnected, the other continues to run without an issue!
Anyone have any theories? Is the default viewer simply crappy? And if so, anyone have any recommendation for a viewer that still lets me take advantage of a good draw distance? The ones I've tried have all had cam restrictions.

Welcome to SL. It's borked. Enjoy!
If you want to see what fails first, there's some command-line option to show the debug log. If you do, you'll see it starts to fail trying to do something, and keeps trying to do that, and finally gives up. I've never found anything particularly illuminating there, but then I haven't looked seriously.

Are both Avs in the same sim? Could be a sim issue. With only 1 getting disconnected it's unlikely to be a problem on your end but it wouldn't hurt to clean your cache and flush the dns cache. For the latter open up the command window & run
ipconfig /flushdns

S Sometimes in the same sim, sometimes not. I'll try the DNS cache, thanks. Hadn't thought of that...

Bumping this up because LL tech support is retarded. They said my graphics card is causing the server lag.

Are you sure they said server lag? Your graphics card is on the recieving end of anything the servers spit out..........it has nothing to do with them (except to render the graphics data from the servers).
I'm a little confused. You say one account looses connection to the servers but then you say sometimes you have two accounts running side by side and one may drop while the other stays connected......is it the same account that drops each time or one of the two but both drop out at random times? Also, I get the impression when you run the two together you are using two different computers...........or are you runing two incidences on the same computer? If you are running the accounts on two separate computers (which is what I think you are doing from your discription) then try to narrow down which computer has the problem by switching the accounts to the two computers to see if the problem follows the account or the computer..........or is it still random?
If you are runing two incidences concurrently on the same computer and only one account drops I'm more or less at a lose. About the only thing I can think of is that your computer can't handle the extra load. But, really, two incidences does not put that much more strain on a computer than one. When I do that my CPU usage only increases by about 5 or 10% (sometimes not even that much).
What usually causes lose of connection to the servers (besides heavy lag on the sim or grid) is your router and/or modem. Have you reset those two devices?

I have been seeing this the last few weeks as well, though not to the extent as the OP. I've had lag spikes that will last for many long seconds in world and repeat over and over for a span of 10-15 minutes, then suddenly everything clears up and I can move normally.
I've had lots of instances where the LL website and forum won't load for 5 minutes or so, then likewise everything clears up and is fine.
Today everything seems to be better than it has in weeks though. I've logged on moved around with no issues, and the websites are responsive as they were a few weeks prior.
Maybe LL is upgrading some hardware piecemeal?

When I'm running two viewers on one computer, one will often get disconnected (the red map syndrome). It's random which one, has nothing to do with which avatar or which logged in first. It might happen more to the av who's doing more, esp using inventory or esp transferring inventory (giving or accepting stiuff).

I think we might be talking about what Patasha is experiencing. I have seen an increase in lag spikes myself though not enough to make SL unplayable......at least for me. It appears LL has introduced some feature, or software code that has reverted SL back to a problem that was common about two years ago (though not nearly as severe). Things like chat lag, chat showing out of the order it was typed, hesitations while moving, complete stopping of any movement for a few seconds, and arriving as a cloud while tp'ing or logging in ("Ruthed" though the wait time is generally much shorter than the old days. I haven't lost my connection due to any of this. But I do remember losing connection happened quite a lot back in the day. I'm guessing that, depending on where you are located physically, your internet speed, your network speed, how many hops to and from the LL servers, etc might effect the severity of the problem for any individual person. I've heard that your inventory size has an effect on how quickly data is transferred from the servers to you client (but that is just something I heard and I'm not sure I believe it entirely.....however that could explain why one of the accounts seem to have the problem more than the other). What can you do to fix this? I'm not sure. Maybe check you internet speed, reset your modem and/or router, check any antivirus/malware/firewall program running. Submit a support ticket or JIRA Or you can wait it out.

I've been known to run five instances of SL on my computer, at one time. That's really what blows my mind. That I can have two accounts logged in, on one computer, and the two AV's are standing next to each other in a sim. Then suddenly, one of them is disconnected. It's so crazy how it happens, too. Often if I'm listening to streaming media on the parcel, or using voice, I don't even notice that I'm disconnected unless I try to move. The media/voice sources continue to work fine, long after I'm "disconnected", until the viewer catches on that the connection is gone.

Bumping this up because it's getting more and more frustrating. I've since replaced my modem and router and the problem persists.
