Ok, running a Toshiba Sattalite laptop, have for a long time. Using an older viewer, not upgrading. 945 chipset, Windows Vista. SL has worked fine up until 2 days ago. All of a sudden, starting with my avatar, then going onto (eventually) everything else, the textures turn black. I have seen a discussion on it, from 2007, with screenshots, but they list it as resolved and don't tell how to fix. Does anyone have a clue what to do?

I tried rolling back the computer, in case there was an upgrade I did not know of, did not help/work. I've made no changes, personally. All I can do is re-log, to stop it. Then, after an hour or so, it will start again.

Any ideas?

We had a brief recent discussion about the ocean floor turning black for a few of us that updated our Nvidia graphics cards. What fixed it for both of us having that problem was turning off "atmospheric shaders" in the graphics settings.

an Intel 945 does not have that, only the basics. on an intel 945 best thing todo it upgrade the graphics driver as high as it will go, that MIGHT slow it down some... but it coulde also be a texture memory problem. which best help wold be to tinker inworld.

Saki, I tried that, to see if that was the issue. It did not help.

I have a question, Saiki. Has this actually happened to you? No one I know has ever said that it happened to them.

Do you have an "atmospheric shaders" option in SL's Preferences / Graphics options?

(As referred to by Avion)

If so, is it turned on?

More generally, how are your graphics settings in SL set?

I'm facing the same problem since one month already and no way than restarting to go on playing...
And I don't have the "atmospheric shaders" option. Any clue?

Thanks

Are either of you using two monitors on the PC on which you use SL?
