someone on sl told me they could talk to all of their friends on SL through google talk. does anyone know how to do this?

I'm not aware of any off-the-shelf method for connecting Google Talk, or any other third party IM client, to SL. Most likely, the person you spoke to was referring to SL's own IM client, which is called SLim.

If SLim is using Jabber (and I have no idea if it is or it isn't), then it probably would be possible to get it to connect to Google Talk, the same way you can with AIM, Yahoo, and MSN. Presumably, you could do the same thing with SLim, provided you know the server info, and that it is indeed compatible, which is a big If.

Are you talking about text chat or voice chat?

SLim uses the Vivox voice client, like the regular viewer does.

You can exchange Google IDs with your SL friends and use Google Talk independently from SL.
