Hello everybody,
I do apologise in advance if my question(s) problems have been discussed already (with my type of card) but I am having a terrible time with SL at the moment (as are many others since this last update) and really am at my wits end.
Of course my problem is both freezing a few times then a total crash of the platform together with my pc. I have not had problems like this before the update and could run both normal and RC viewers. I have always used the normal SL grid but once these problems started I switched to the RC and that was no better. So on looking at some threads decided to try the Nicholaz EC edition and for a day it was fine but then the freezing started again and then the crashes. This can happen within the first 15 of my being logged in and I dont have to be doing much, maybe sorting inventory or having a dance on a dance ball..even just typing in IM seems to start up the freezing. I have all my settings running low so no fancy windlight happening for me.
The *about Second life* tells me this about my pc

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 (Unknown model) (2800 MHz)
Memory: 1536 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce FX 5500/AGP/SSE2
OpenGL Version: 2.0.1

I hope someone could throw some hints at what I could try to fix this..Oh and I have udated my graphics card driver and that doesnt help either :-)

Thankyou kindly
Nikki xxx

PS will keep an eye on this for a little over the next hour should anyone need to know more info :-)

Have you checked your network bandwidth to be sure nothing's happened to it? Sometimes DSL/cable modems go south and need to be power cycled (let it sit idle for 10 minutes or so) or replaced.

I had freezes lately as well. I have a newer computer than yours with good graphics card, and begain experiencing a lot of freezing with the newest update, but no other clients. In puzzlement, I looked at my background jobs and began whacking them, one by one. When I turned off the WinAmp agent (lurks around waiting for media files to be accessed that Winamp might display), the crashes stopped.

Another culprit I've also heard about causing conflicts is older installations of Quicktime.

So, you might take a look at other programs that could, suddenly, conflict with something new that LL has slipped in.

The two things that come to my mind are:

1. Do a quick search here on nvidia, and you will see that the nvidia drivers newer than 175.x are causing problems for many SL users.

2. Check to make sure your PC is cooling properly (fan working, not full of dust inside).

Thankyou so much for your advice Malia and Nika :-)

I think I have fixed the problem although not in the way I intended :-0

To start with I updated quicktime and it helped only a little.

I checked my ADSL speed and all was normal and fine there. I dusted my graphics card :) A little dust there
......but then the biggy event happens :-)....
I think I accidently wiped too many drivers off as I tried to roll back to an older version for my graphics and used the programme *driver sweeper* :-0

Anyway, playing around with this led me to lose my desktop and no matter what I tried I could not get it back so out comes the boot up disk thinking I could just do a system recovery from a day or so before but noooooo...it starts to do a full restore back to factory settings!!!! Lost everything but thankfully I did save my important things to disk only a couple of weeks ago.

But hey! this has helped immensely. Was on SL last night and aside from maybe four little freezes during a 6 hour session i had no crashes and the freezes did recover so I can live with that :-)

Oh and this was on the normal viewer, not Nicholaz or RC.

Once again thanks for your tips and interest.

Nikki, glad you were able to get back in. I had to do the same thing a few months ago with the factory settings reset, and I had not backed up my personal files for a long time... that was awful, I feel your pain. :(

Longort, was there any other information in the error message when you crashed, such as what kind of error?

What is the driver version for your Nvidia card?

How much RAM does your system have?

Which SL client version are you using (Ex: 1.20.17.xx)?
