I just got this message trying to log back in after serious lag issues:-

'Due to a higher-than-usual load, logins to SecondLife have been temporarily disabled...etc'

Well, How are you deciding on who stays who goes today heh? Who gets in who doesn't??! Cos it's just that I've paid like anyone else! Just as well a 'slap in the face' like this has come at a time when I've been umming and arghing over going back to proper online gaming, it's helped me come to a decision.

There's 56,554 online right now, there were 62,000 or more the other day and none of this!

What a joke :/

Given my inability to TP - which induced me to dump cache and relog - prior to receiving exactly the same can't-log notice I predict the old stand-by excuse of

NETWORK PROBLEMS AT THE ISP

Because really, I saw 74k logged at one point over the weekend and aside from some heavier-than-usual lag there were no problems.

But of course the poor paying customers will never be given the straight answer.

Temporary Database Issues
Posted by Status Desk on August 20th, 2008 at 04:00 pm PDT
[UPDATE 4:05 PM PDT] We have temporarily disabled logins while this issue is investigated.

We are currently experiencing a problem with the database that may result in difficulties logging in, rezzing objects, completing transactions, and searching. We are aware of this issue and our ops team are working to resolve it as swiftly as possible. In the mean time, please avoid making important transactions or rezzing no-copy objects.

Y'all guys are spoiled. :) You should have been around when I first came to SL. Server updates every Tuesday morning (SL time) that lasted for up to 12 hours..........the grid was closed to everyone but Lindens. Then we had the fun of the grid adjusting to all the updated software for 3 to 5 days...........frequent sim crashes all over the grid. Borked software in the update............rolling restarts at unannounced times (you'd get the 5 minute warning and in less than 30 secs you were logged off).

It's so much better now days. :)

But, if you insist.....carry on.

your so wrong, it was 12 hours, then a 2 hour hotfix, then a 5 hour downtime as all the devs were called back in at midnight for another 2 hour hotfix

then yea a minimum of 3-5 days before things were stable enough where we could just tiptoe around the broken crap till next week

course before you came around they did patches maybe 6 times a year, so if something was borked you had to wait 6 weeks to 6 months!

I guess if the ship is showing signs of sinking they can stop anyone they like from jumping on board.
