I have been having problems with all the newer Nvidia drivers for my 8800GTS 512mb card beyond the 175 and my AMD 6000+ dual core.
The main problem with no other work around, but to go back to older drivers, is display problems with my clothes layers. Sometimes if I put something on the whole body part turns all white or all black and won't go away. I have tried taking off and putting the clothes back on, relogging and clearing my cache. Nothing works. Also if it effects shoes, the slider for adjusting the height of the shoes cloth is gone and I am black or white all the way up to my waist. Now the strange thing is others are seeing the white and black on me too..why would this happen?
I also get a jittery video display, like missing frames, which I found out is temporarily solved changing the infinity settings in the processed tab in task manager to only one processor for SL and setting priorty to above normal. This has to be reset everytime I start SL. Does anyone know how to fix this jitter?
What Nvidia video card and drivers would you recommend with the AMD dual core?
Hardware: AMD 6000+ dual core 4GB Ram 3.2 available Nvidia 8800GTS 512mb video card 32bit XP 160gb HHD, 20Gb free space 750 watt dual rail PSU

Try the 175.19 driver version. That's the one I use for my 8600GT. That driver should work for your card too. I'm on an Intel CPU but I don't think that makes a difference as far as graphics is concerned. And I use Vista 32 too.

175.19 worked for me.
On later drivers, try disabling palletized textures. CTRL-ALT-F7 does this. You may beed to adjust misbehaving clothes in edit appearance after doing this.
Palletized textures have been removed from the Release Candidate viewer, it may work better for you with the new drivers.

IT is now out as a release candidate which you can download now at SecondLife.com. If you want to wait for "real" version, you can do this for the time being. Once you login , do the three key combo of control-alt-D. This will put an Advanced tab at the top tool bar next to Help tab. Then select Advanced, then "Rendering",then features, then UNCHECK "palletized textures". That will do it.You may have to then do 3 key combo of control-alt-R for a rebake. Your clothes and skin will then be OK and normal again. Note that you will have to reset this each time you log in. But it does work, and the next viewer will permanately fix this issue. If you have any questions, send me an IM inworld and I will reply when I can. Try this before making BIG changes to your system as this is an easy fix.

From: Layla Honi What Nvidia video card and drivers would you recommend with the AMD dual core? The latest ones for Linux. Folks have been reporting problems with Windows and the 8000 and 9000 series GeForce adapters; these problems aren't reproducible on Linux.
