I am wondering if anyone can help me. I am running sl on 2 computers with 2 different SL accounts. So far I have not been able to get on SL with both accounts at the same time. I have had the router checked by a computer tech, and there isn't anything wrong there. I am at a loss for what to do next.
I have lowered the bandwith to 100 on both computers but still no luck.
If anyone can help me with this I would sure appreciate it.

thanks:D

Well, it sounds to me like your computer tech is wrong. Although the router is fine, it most likely is older and can't do what SL needs.

If I had to venture a guess I would bet it's a linksys router.

If it is, I suggest checking for a firmware update. that helped with mine. (twice, 2 dif linksys routers)

Linksys is crap. Dump Linksys for another vendor's firewall.

I am having this issue as well. A friend and I play, but can't connect at the same time over his Netgear Router. What can be setup to get this working, if anything???

I could go buy a brand new Linksys router and it still wouldn't work properly. Age has nothing to do with how good a product is.

If you two are both having problems with a Netgear router, then it's likely that at least your specific model of Netgear router is crap too. Email support@secondlife.com and see what advice they have. If a lot of people have had problems, you should invest your money in a more standards-compliant router.

You should at least try to upgrade the router with the latest firmware.

You'll probably find it here:
http://kbserver.netgear.com/main.asp
Along with FAQs, troubleshooting and other documents.

If that doesn't help, get another router that is working properly, like the others here are saying.

Well, I have somewhat solved the mystery. It is with the netgear router. I have been on the phone with everyone in the world it seems. I have had the ports open by netgear and everything. Nothing has worked, so, I am off to the store to get a new router system. And as a side note, the people at net gear aren't really bright. I explained what I wanted to do, and the lady I spoke with talked me thru every step of opening the ports (which was suggested by my cable internet company), after doing all this, she informs me that still the game will not be able to be played at the same time. Also, upon doing all this, I can no longer play the game on one computer. So, I don't have anything nice to say about netgear.

SMC's routers suck, but the same is true of pretty much all $50 routers. I've never had any problems with SL on mine.

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 router with firmware version 1.45.11. As of version 1.2 of SL, I was able to have two different accounts logged on at time. However I tried 1.4 on a couple different computers and am now not able to log on with both accounts. Did something change with the network code or protocol in 1.3 or 1.4?
