Hi,

I recently tried installing SL and they simply won't run. I double click and nothing. I get the hour glass, appearing as if its loading, and then 2 seconds later it disappears. I even tried opening it through Xfire, it too gets it loading for 2 seconds and then just goes off.
Now it did run the last time I used it which was about a year ago. I had unistalled it. And now, no matter how many times I try to install, it just won't open.

I searched through the forums for help and it didnt do much. I deleted all the files from my computer, even those from my previous use in this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application Data\Secondlife\

Here's my info:

Manufacturer: INTELR
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6420 @ 2.13GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Hard Drive: 370 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

PS. I'm not getting any error messages at all.

Have you been able to run SL before? Have you rebooted and tried again? Are you using recent video drivers? Are they properly installed?

EDIT: or not if it isn't even installing.

You did UNZIP it first right? Then run the setup.exe.

I was able to run it before, maybe about a year or so ago.

When I'm downloading it, there's nothing to unzip, its the .exe

Am I missing something?

What version did you download?

What is url that you downloaded it from?

What is name of the installation file you downloaded?

Does the installation file run?

I think there's some .log files in there, somewhere. You might try noting the date/time, starting SL and letting it die, then looking under that directory for files that changed within the last few minutes.

It's a bit of a geeky route but might provide some insight into what's choking.

Are you running it from the newly created shortcut in the Program Files/SecondLife folder or from an old shortcut? Best to use the new one.

You could try checking your Windows Event Viewer and see if it has anything useful.

Start / Settings / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Event Viewer

What kind of internet service do you have?

What kind of firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware and other security software are you running?

Are you in a college dorm?

You could try looking at your secondlife.log file.

Yeah, I was thinking Linux version...

Only other thing I can think of that causes this issue is a outdated or wrong Install Shield.

I checked, and there was nothing :S

Sygate Firewall (made to allow)
not a college dorm, just a normal house heh
And I safely removed all the files on my pc to make sure that there isn't any conflict.

I also tried running the updater on its own and doesn't work.
I made the crash test, it says I had a crash and thats it.

I'm also pretty sure to download the Windows version.

Just in case do any of you have any idea where I can download a correct and updated version?

Ps. Thanks for all your help =)
