Has anyone else had the 0.2.5 client run at under 1 Hz, even at the splash/password page?
Upon upgrading my video card and installing all new drivers, I thought the login page was frozen. Turns out it was running - at about 1 frame per 2-3 seconds! Changing to my monitor's native 1280x1024 resolution didn't help (and it takes about 30 seconds to change any of the options). I entered the game, and it started up, but I never saw anything but the first frame and I had to kill the process. The CPU load is roughly 100% while all this is going on.
I tried both the drivers that came with the video card, and the newest Nvidia drivers, reinstalling the 0.2.5 client after each, and there was no change in performance.
Windows 2K, Geforce4 4600 Ti, ECS K7S5A, Seagate Barracude 5 HD.
Interestingly, SL worked when I first installed the card/drivers semi-incorrectly; I pulled the old video card (ATI Radeon VE), installed the new GF4Ti, and pointed to a likely location on the CD when Windows asked for new drivers. This made Second Life work just fine. But nothing else worked correctly: all my web browsing had about 1-second pauses any time the screen redrew or a menu popped up. So I decided to fix this by reinstalling the Radeon + drivers, uninstalling all the Radeon drivers, then installing the GF4Ti and running the installer program from the GF4Ti CD. Now everything else works great but Second Life runs at 0.3 Hz.
Anyone have any insight?
