Hi'ya...

I'm rarely on the forums but anyway I'm having some serious issues with my Second Life, yesterday I went away from the computer, it went to "sleep mode" (since my brother just installed the windows again (vista) two days ago). So SL wouldn't start anymore when I turned the computer back on, there was just the border and nothing inside, I could move the SL window arround the screen and it's just invisible inside I can even see the wallpaper and everything behind it. I tried restarting it and nothing has changed.

Here is the screenshot:

http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/4732/screenshotua0.jpg

It worked normally before and nothing has changed since yesterday. I tried the release candidate and everything I can to get it working. It's just not working since this morning :(

Funny is.. when I try ctrl+alt+del the login screen and I click on cancel or start task manager the Second Life login screen is there but I can't click on anything, if I press enter, SL will log on and I still can't see nothing until I ctrl + enter and it goes full screen then SL shows up normally but if I try to go out of full screen, it gets invisible again.

I have had some issues with the new viewer like parts of the body getting black and a message about SL stopped working after I close it.

Please, can anybody help me?

Thank you very much.

Hello again, Anette. This problem is a little unusual. First try deleting your cache before you try to start SL. In In Vista the folder is:
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife

You will have to reset all your preferences next time you login from this computer.

Next, two questions:

1. Has anything changed about your network? Or, are you on wireless? This problem could happen if your firewall was blocking access to SL.

2. Can you please post your machine specifications? Amount of RAM, video card, processor?

Also, in general when you post a question on the forums, please post back to let us know when you figure out what the problem is. It will help us to help the next person who asks!

Thanks!

Ok, I tried deleting everything from that folder but still having the same problem.

My computer has wireless but it's disabled I also tried to disable the windows firethingy.

Taken from the help, about second life in full screen about my computer:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (3005 MHz)
Memory: 4095 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 9800 GX2/PCI/SSE2

It's weird since I'm actually on Vista and it says XP. Also recently there was an issue with my video card and my brother replaced it by his, but he had to reinstall the windows as well.

Thank you

What video card and version of video driver.

(It's too bad the About Second Life dialog doesn't give that information.)

If you haven't updated your video drivers since reformatting and reinstalling then you might try doing that.

If that doesn't work you might try using succesively older versions of driver till you get one that works, or give up.

The "About" page being wrong about your computer is VERY odd. Tell me, If you look at your system properties (My Computer/Properties on XP, not sure about Vista), does it say you are running Vista or XP?

If it says "XP", then either you are actually running XP or your brother blew the Vista upgrade, which would be a more serious problem than not being able to run SL :), and you would have to talk to him.

If your system properties says you are running Vista and SL says you are running XP, then try uninstalling SL, reboot, then reinstall.

OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (Build 6001)

However the Release Candidate viewer still says "Windows XP" the regular SL doesn't. It's the newest in the download page as for now.

On the computer proprieters it says "Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1".

Thank you.

Too bad the About Second Life info doesn't include the video driver version.

Has the video driver been updated since the format and reinstall?

What version video driver is in use?

Ok, it's getting complicated for me hehe...

178.13 is it I think..

Now, the even funnier part: I discovered if I ctrl+alt+del and go there, with the static login screen image and I click on About nothing happens but if I ctrl + alt + del again it shows up, to see any changes on the image of the SL window I need to ctrl + alt + del if not full screen. Even after I logged in, I can see SL without fullscreen picture by picture if I keep click ctrl + alt + del and then cancel lol...

One might try running SL without Aeroglass.

If the video driver is the one that came with Vista then you might try updating from the nVidia site.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY It worked when I switched to the classic theme.

But wait..

Why is it happening? I've always ran the aero thing in purple with the sidebar and all with SL and never happened anything similar.

Is there a way to fix it?

Thank you.
