I'm seeing black smokey circles everywhere

I have everything turned up to max and the game looks and runs great but two things are happening that I am puzzled about.

1) When looking at objects, especially white objects I see black smokey dot/circles whatever you wanna call them in the object and surrounding area. Sometimes they are alone and sometimes I'll see a grid of them usually 4x4 or 5x5 i'm not sure.

2) Now and then I'm treated to a visual light show as all the textures on all the surfaces around me start flashing various colors. This usually last for the most a minute then everything goes back to its normal self. The funny part was that last night this happened but there was a tree in the middle of it all that wasn't affected.

My system:
Win XP Home
Intel P4 2.4 w/ht
1 Gig Ram
Radeon XT 9800 256 (catalyst 3.10)
SB Audigy2 ZS
Kex Godel
Master Slacker

Try setting your video memory in SL's Preferences to 32MB and see if that fixes it. =)

Try turning off "Glows Around Lights" and see if that helps.

As Tiger Crossing said, this can happen when you have the "Glows Around Lights" option enabled. To turn it off, choose View > Preferences > Display, and de-select "Glows Around Lights".

I have a Radeon 9700 Pro, and I see this quite a bit too. From what I've read in the forum, it's due to an incompatibility between SL and ATI (LL says that it's an ATI bug and they're working with them to resolve it). There's nothing you can do about it.

Make sure you use the Catalyst 3.1 driver and disable AGP in the Second Life preferences. That helps ATI issues a little.
