Hi there,
I recently installed Second Life after not playing for about a year or so. Coming back on, I was able to play for a few minutes, when all of a sudden my character couldn't move, and I tried to get him to move but nothing was working, so the game said that I had lost connection (?).
So I re-logged in, and for played again - two minutes later my avatar kept moving forward and wouldn't stop - he would pass through EVERYTHING until finally it disconnected again.
It's happened every time I try, and it doesn't matter what I do, I either freeze or keep walking.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to the new and improved SL... SL takes a little more than it did pre-windlight. Is this happening in all sims or just the one you are in? What kind of computer and connection do you have??

What kind of computer and connection do you have?? Thank you for your reply. I apologize ahead of time, what do you mean by sims? My computer is pretty new: 4 Gigs of Ram, 2.20 Quad Core Processor, Windows Vista with a 8800 Nvidia GT As well, I have no router, running a direct connection from my modem to the computer, believe me, I work the company that provides my internet service and I know it's just fine .

SL is broke up in a grid, the grid is made up of sims. Each sim has a name and is the area/region you are in at the time. Log into a different sim might help if the sim you are in is having connection issues. If you can log in teleport somewhere else.If every place you teleport has issues then it is somewhere between SL and you. SL has been pretty crappy lately so that maybe the issue also. EDIT: Computer specs look fine. It is sounds like a connection issue.

Ah, I see what you're saying.
Oh ok, I've tried a few different areas, including the training area and it happens where ever I go. Is there a specific I should try that is usually pretty good?
As well, it certainly does yes, but I don't know what could possibly be the cause.

If it is happening in more than one area then something else maybe happening. Someone else just reported an identical problem. I wish I had an answer other than try again tomorrow. SL is having issues today.

You might want to check that your ports are properly opened.
Second Life needs to connect to ports 443/TCP, 12035/UDP, 12036/UDP, 12043/TCP, and 13000-13050/UDP.

SL is having issues today. That's alright. You did your best. Alright, I opened all those ports on my firewall, and I have no router. However, it's still happening. The exact same problem

My SL usually works very well. I haven't changed computer or settings.... but lately it's hit or miss. Some times I can be in a room with 15 avatars and run smoothly. Other times I can be in that very same room alone and I can barely move. SL is constantly tinkering and unfortunately slowed performance is usually the end result more often then none.
