I had a bug like this too on an object I'm working on. I submitted a bug report... but I haven't heard back yet. The issue is Alpha sorting, I believe. Software decides what shows up when alpha is present. From certain angles on my object... the outter block "disappeared." It didn't actually, if you looked closely, it was actually being drawn behind the other one. This seems to happen if you use two overlapping prims that use the same texture if that texture uses alpha. I haven't tried to reproduce it on another object, I ended up moving the part of the texture underneat to a different texture, which solved my issue; but it seems that the actuall issue still exists. Just thought I'd add this.
