It's certainly possible that this is a server-side thing, in which case you'd just have to file a support ticket to get a resolution--they may be able to find the missing stuff in a corrupted Inventory.
But because it's crashing, there's also some chance that your machine has corrupted information stored about that one avatar. If it's possible to test logging in from a different machine, and the avatar's inventory is okay there, then you want to find the (OS-specific) location where avatar data is stored on the bad machine, and delete it. (On XP, it's somewhere like C:\Documents and Settings\windows_username\Application Data\SecondLife\avatar_name.) It gets rebuilt the next time the application runs. It doesn't get deleted when the application is reinstalled (nor when uninstalled, AFAIK).

Okay, unfortunately, unless somewhere there's a folder hiding that you missed, I'm afraid it will behave the same on another machine, too. So, I'd recommend filing that support ticket, so one of the Linden inventory gurus can start trying to repair your inventory, while the trail of the missing items is still warm. Sometimes they succeed, so hope for the best.

Exactly what kind of support is available to an account depends on membership level and other factors ("Concierge-level" land ownership, for example). The starting place is http://secondlife.com/support/ ... hopefully there's a "Ticket Submission" button when you go there, at least, and possibly a "Live Chat" button and "Phone Support" contact info. For non-"Premium" members... I just don't know how that works. I know they can submit billing tickets somehow. I have no idea whether Inventory Loss is another special kind of ticket available to non-paying members. Someone else may know.

if you are a Basic (non-paying) account

Hi Zion! Welcome to the forums. The Lindens are very interested in catastrophic inventory loss like that which you've suffered, so you may be able to get them to help you. It's also possible that there is simply something corrupt about your account, given the map and appearance problems. I have added a comment pointing to this thread to the JIRA (issue tracker) bug concerning inventory loss (SVC-114).
You should definitely file a support ticket, even if you are a Basic (non-Premium) account there is a ticket type just for this problem.
Go to the support page Qie gave you the link for, and read the pretty good explanation there. At the bottom of the page is a big banner button reading "Ticket Submission". Click that.
On the form, if you are a basic account, choose the "Special Questions" ticket type. Another line will show up on the form ... in that, choose the last item, "There was an item in my inventory window, but it isn't working or is missing".
Describe when it happened, and how much disappeared, and particularly mention about all the system folders disappearing. That's very odd.
Good luck! .
