You're right; video doesn't work with Windows 2000 with any of the 1.19.0 viewers (the main viewer, WindLight, or Dazzle). The problem: SL now requires QuickTime 7.4.1, but the last version that works with Win2K is 7.1.6. The reason is that there is a known exploit of earlier versions of QuickTime.
For now, the only solution is NOT to upgrade to a 1.19 viewer. Eventually that will stop working, at which point you will either have to upgrade your OS or build a patched viewer that removes the QuickTime version requirement. If you do either of those things, be really careful about where you choose to play videos. I don't expect LL to fix this one. It's more likely that they will discontinue support of Windows 2000. Sorry. |

It's all Apples fault for dropping support of an outdated Microsoft product

meh its linden labs fault for using a 3rd party video application inside of their application, ive always been disappointed that i need SOMETHING else running to view "inworld" content and i personally have to keep up with YET another software update for something that i NEVER use outside of SL
it always just seemed like a half-assed way of doing it |

Quicktime Alternative?

Windows XP. Loads of good reasons rather to stop using SL than downgrading to XP or Vista. |

The realxtend-Viewer can run movies again now, if you like me use win2k and don't have an old original viewer left to install. |

Quicktime Alternative? Has the same issue. The last version of QTA that supports Win2000 is 1.9.0, which is still not late enough for SL. I tried. ![]() So, I guess I now have to be down a week while I procure a $150 copy of Wind XP Pro and reinstall every damn thing if I ever want to see video again. :-/ |
