I downloaded the full set of new templates earlier today -- can't open the hair one in PSP 7 (it doesn't appear in the PSP "browser" either).

opening hair template in Photoshop 7
03-11-2003 12:39
Hmmm.... I was able to open both templates in Photoshop 7.0.1. Also, a coworker was able to open it in gimp, though with a warning about a "null channel".

Shebang, did you have any luck opening it? Does anyone else have a problem opening the hair template?

I actually went in and saved each layer as a seperate image and zipped them up for shebang. I dunno if she ever got the actual ones working.

Nope, the originals never would open for me in PaintShopPro (version 7).

The ones Ama created for me open just fine, as do all the other templates I downloaded from the site.

I had a problem opening one too, not sure which one it was though now. Must be the old age, or the beer ... =0)

Ok, I downloaded and installed the beta of PaintShopPro 8.

It can open the hair template -- but an error popup does occur first: "This PSD file contains unsupported features." None of the other templates cause that popup to occur.

Looks like all of the layers are there.

So: PSP7 -- hair template will not open
PSP8 -- hair template opens after above error message

Heh I just re-read through this thread and here is my summary:

Shebang: I can't open the hair template in Paint Shop Pro 7

Linden: Hm you sure? I can open all the templates in Photoshop 7

Shebang: Yeah I'm sure Paint Shop Pro 7 won't open the hair one.

[Other people] : I can open it fine in Photoshop 7!

My guess is it opens fine in Photoshop 7 (PS 7), but doesn't in Paint Shop Pro 7 (PSP 7). :)

Ding ding ding! Ama wins the prize!

Tell him what he's won, Johnny!

Johnny: Ama, you've won an all expenses paid trip to the kitchen! That's right, Ama, we'll fly you and a guest to the luxurious Kitchen, where you'll spend 5 days / 6 nights enjoying the fine cuisine of the Omega family!

Yes, folks, we have established:

1) the hair template DOES open in PhotoShop 7

2) the hair template DOES NOT open in PaintShopPro 7 (at least not in mine, and no one else who uses PSP 7 has spoken up)

3) the hair template DOES open in PaintShopPro 8 beta

:)

That video could cause some trouble, considering my S.O. is a feisty red head. :D

Erp...

Thanks for clearing that up, Ama. I ran out of brain cells for acronyms a long time ago.

None of the artists here use Paint Shop Pro, so I'm not surprised this slipped through. It turns out Paint Shop Pro 7 doesn't support the Photoshop 7 drop shadow which was an effect used on the text layer of the hair template. At least PSP 8 handles the incompatibility better and lets you open the file.

I'll make sure we get the template updated on the website so users with PSP 7 can open the file.

Sorry for the confusion!

No need to be sorry -- I shouldn't've used acronyms myself =)

Paul, lemme know if you want the individual images that Ama made for me.

:)

This apparently never happened, because I still can't open the hair template in PSP 7.

And since my version of PS is 5.5, it would appear that I wouldn't be able to open it there, either.

Can we get a fix for this? I don't do enough graphics work to justify paying for the latest version of PS.

me neither

I'm using Paintshop Pro 8 beta and I get the same error message when I open the hair template -- it has "unsupported features." This bugged me until I actually used the hair alpha (which does show up when the template opens) and created some hair. The alphas seemed to work fine and my new fall-leaf hairdo looks ok too. So I'm wondering what those "unsupported features" might be?

And I'm still waiting on the fixed version. (Notice the original thread is 5 months old.)
