Today I logged onto SL. my pc then crashed later during the day and once i rebooted and managed to get back on half my inventory is missing. It is NOT downloading, it is not LOADING either.
I went from 9k items down to 5k items, empty folders that wont open are everywhere in my inventory. I cleared my cache, I sumbitted a ticket, i tried the preview grid and everything else i could find around the forums and knowledge base. Nothing has worked so far.
Will my stuff be forever lost? =(

This is happening to me, SECOND time this week PLUS other database server problems, like everybody seeing the clothes I was wearing days ago while I see myself fine. I've gone from 20K to 6380 items. I've cleared my cache, used other SL clients, relogged, logged back in ADITI. Nothing works! My fear is that LL is messing with the database server my avatar is in and I may lose everything in my inventory. I know people that have lost everything because of that. I have a business here and I can't afford that. I can't even make backups since most of my stuff is missing!

You both need to refresh your viewer install. Go hunting for the cache folder on your computer. Depending on the OS it's location varys.
Something like C:windows/*users name*/application data/secondlife
delete the whole secondlife folder. But maybe find and secure your chat logs first, if you need them.
Anyway, this will force SL's central stuff to find your invy.
The down side is you will lose all your neato settings and have to click all the silly blue dialogs again.
Hope that fixes things
oh, just to make this challenging, all the folders I am talkng about are hidden by windows default. Good luck!

I have only experienced a serious inventory loss twice and by 'serious' inventory loss I mean 'not temporary' because it happens from time to time that the inventory folder does not load properly, which could be for any number of reasons, but your inventory is not lost - it is just not immediately accessible.
I was a newbie the first time I had a serious inventory loss and unfortunately I had just shelled out 2,000 lindens for a set of skins. I lost all but one copy that I had already saved into a folder under the 'Appearance' dialog. I didn't know any better and that was that. Gone.
The second time it happened, I submitted a support ticket and the folks at Linden Labs kicked my inventory folder around until the item turned up again. It took little more than an evening and a morning for them to sort the problem out and get back to me. You probably need to be a Premium Account to get that sort of attention.
However, it is usually sufficient to just be patient and see if the system will right itself within a few hours. Otherwise your 'Cache' may be full. In which case go into 'Preferences' and click the 'Clear Cache' button under the 'Network' tab then relog. A full cache folder can be the cause of all sorts of problems with SL performance including what some folk mistakenly assume is 'lag'.

I cleared my cache countless times today.
It all happened when my computer acted up today. I rebooted and when i got back on suddenly the Viewer acted like it was newly installed. Im using the greenlife viewer. Also I was told that some viewers cause inventory loss more than others. Then someone else told me to reroll a new Avatar because mine could be courrupted, could that be true in any way? Lucky I got one single item out of nearly 5k replaced by the creator of the item. I would try a different viewer but my problem is that greenlife at this point seems to be the only one my system allows to run. all other viewers (and trust i probably tried every single one out there) will immediately crash upon login. More or less freeze and at some point log me out of SL.
This is not the first time this happened to me. it happened 3 times before this month and nothing serious got lost. The very first time it happened was in June, none of that ever came back either.. Though back then it was completely gone, not even empty folders left. I already sent a ticket and im hoping they will get back to me within the next few days and poke around in my inventory a bit to find out the issue with this and be able to fix it.

From: Zyankali Diavolo I cleared my cache countless times today. Clearing cache is not the same thing as was suggested above.

I tried searching my computer i dont seem to have anything like that on my pc... I am not familiar with greenlifes file locations. But it should be easy to find using the viewer. Look in prefferences, near the "clear cache" button, should be a pointer to the cache folder. Searching for greenlife may also work. Either way, chase down that folder and remove. Something in there has dun broke from your crash. The folder and files will be repopulted the first time you start and log in.

Yes I finally found it and I would like to say thanks to the person that gave me the tip, and all other supporters. I have managed to get my inventory back and it just made my day It made me find the cache folders of the viewers i used/tried in the past as well and i got rid of them all. Now eventually I may want to try out and see if i can get a different client to work for me. As this seems to be a common issue with greenlife.. From what people told me at least. at least 3/4 of the people on my friend list whom use greenlife have had it happen before. So maybe using a different client wouldnt be a bad idea. I just hope I can get them to work >.< thanks again to all of you guys. You really helped me out big time
