I can very little info on compatability of SL with Asus Graphics Cards. Should it work?
I'm running 32 Vista, E8400 3GHz, 2Gb RAM, Asus P5K Motherboard, and an Asus 8600GT Graphics Card.
When I try and open SL, it instantly crashes.
Any recommendations?
Thank you.

Uninstall SL & delete this folder manually, x:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife reinstall, see if something happen.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I've uninstalled SL, but I've had a look and definitely can't find that file. I've search all the \appdata stuff and done tons of searches for SecondLife stuff, and can't find anything!

If you can't find the file in your search then it's not there. Just make sure after you uninstalled SL that everything related to SL is gone......if not, manually delete it. Reinstall with a fresh copy of SL. My advice is to save to your disk and install from there instead of "running" from the website.

One thing to look at is what drivers you're running. When we talk about Nvidia cards, one ting to understand is that Nvidia doesn't actually make video cards -- they make the components (i.e., the video chips and such) that other companies such as BFG, XFX, and so on use to make their video cards. Therefore, in this case, you may have an ASUS video card but you'd still need to have the proper Nvidia drivers for the 8600GT card installed. Try taking a look at: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=2&l2=-1and see if you can find the card that matches yours. P2

Where do I get the drivers from then? Does that kind of thing not come with the card?

Also, don't really know how much this has to do with it, or if it could be a problem. But I downloaded a widget which shows me the percentage of the processor and ram in use. When I try and start up SL one of processor core always maxes out according to the widget.
Does this mean that my processor can't handle it? I thought it was a fairly decent one.

just goto nvidia's website, get the generic driver http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uswhy, 99% of the time its newer than the ones on the card makers website, and the only thing you loose out on is a dumbass logo buried somewhere in the control panel and no SL maxes out any cpu, its kinda written poorly

I've downloaded and installed the latest driver from nvidia, and uninstalled and reinstalled SL, but still nothing! It just freezes up the second I open it.
This is getting kinda frustrating. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Try this driver. It's the one I'm using with my 8600GT on a Vista machine. It's not the newest but it's stable and works flawlessly for me. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_169.25_whql.htmlAlso remember to uninstall any nVidia driver you might have before installing the one you want. I never run from the website......always save to disk and run from there. It seems to be a little better for me. And it gives you the opportunity to run your virus scanner across it first.

You actually usee 100% of one core so its true -.o try shifting focus from SL to any other prog = SL use 20~25% cpu , wich would be 1/4 of what you use when its active. quadcore = 25% ~100% of one core dualcore = 50% ~100% of one core So it does uses 100% of one core , if it has focus : p Advanced / rendering / run multiple threads - do nothing as far as i seen. Systemexplorer free and a better windows task manager \o http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx To see this path > \Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife Control panel, classic view , folder options, view , show hidden folders.

Okay, I don't think the drivers are installing properly.
I remember that when I uninstalled the first driver I had tried, when I restarted the computer I got that message "Windows needs to finish installation" and thought it was a bit weird, but did it anyway thinking it was something to do with uninstalling it. But just now, I uninstalled the second driver I'd tried, but I didn't restart straight away, and I got that same message which I did. The screen went black and white, and I thought I'd try SL, which did actually work! But in black and white, obviously. I restarted but back to the same old problem (colour back).
So, not sure what all the means, but is there anyway of making sure I've gotten rid of every last bit of driver so I can start fresh and install it again properly.
Anyway to check that drivers have been properly installed?
Thanks for all the help, btw.

The only way I know is to uninstall the driver again and reinstall with a fresh copy. Don't do anything that the wizzard does not direct you to do. When you uninstall a driver Windows will want you to restart.........then when you do, Windows will find "new hardware" and will want you to search for the driver. Don't do it, just close the wizzard and then go to the driver you downloaded and install it.
