I've got a weird issue on a new computer. I fired it up last night for the first time and everything works great except the mouse. It is really jittery and every couple seconds jumps across the screen. In SL, it disappears altogether, then flickers back into view and skips badly. It also seems like there's a weird little box around it, almost like I can see the screen behind the SL viewer. The problem is pronounced in SL, but it seems to be present no matter what I'm doing.
I'm using the latest RC for SL and here are my specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom Quad-core 9600, 2.3G Vid card: 2x EVGA 8600 GT Ram: 2 Gigs OS: Windows XP Mouse: Basic Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse
Any ideas? I went to Logitech's website and couldn't find drivers for this mouse. I'll probably replace it soon with a nicer one, but I'd like to sort this one out first before I replace it with a nice one and have the same problem.

OMG you got the thing, were you in sl last night.. If so, are you still in I know this may sound stupid but did you wipe off the bottom of your mouse? I know mine bounces all over the screen sometimes when it gets something on the laser. It might just have a tiny piece of packing left on it. Doubt it though but it is definitely a thought. My mouse is a Logitech cordless MX Revolution.. Not cheap but I love the thing. Have a look at it before you buy a new one. Also there are a few *mouse* (mice) out there that dont work good for sl and games, apparently they are too strong for them or something like that. Every now and then I wish I wasnt blonde so I was a little more techi enabled. Here's hoping you got XP-Pro instead of XP-Home Go for it big guy have a blast. Dont you just love FedEx over UPS.

Is the mouse wired via USB? If so, update the USB driver.
If it's bluetooth, well, no HUGE surprise, try a wired mouse.
p.s. Congrats on finally getting it!!

Thanks and thanks! I was supposed to get it today, but I was tracking it and when it got into Olympia, I went over to the FedEx distribution center with flowers and a big smile and sweet-talked the nice lady at the front desk into digging it out of the pile in the back room and giving it to me a day early.
I was on last night, but I'm at work now. I'll be on this evening, but I have a dinner I have to go to (awards dinner - I'm not winning anything, I just have to show up and clap and pretend I like the crappy food).
At any rate, it's hardwired in, but it's through the regular mouse interface, not the USB port. I'm used to a USB mouse. I looked at the optical interface, or whatever you call it on the bottom and it's clean. Maybe it's my homegrown mousepad, though. I'll try something different under it.
While I'm asking, the GPU's are "SLi ready" and the motherboard came with the SLi bridge, but there's nowhere to plug in the dang thing. It's the 512 model of the 8600 GT, not the 256, made by EVGA. Anyone know if this is one of their models that doesn't require a bridge? It seems to be running awfully well, so I suspect that's the case, but EVGA's website was unhelpful.

ohhh yes, your mousepad could have a special fungus growing on it that the laser just doesnt like. Take your tongue and lick it clean. Free penicilian You really took them flowers, OMG your withdrawal must have been worse than I suspected. "While I'm asking, the GPU's are "SLi ready" and the motherboard came with the SLi bridge, but there's nowhere to plug in the dang thing." Remember I am blonde, what the heck does that mean. Yes you should be getting an award. "Best SL attorney personality"

What I was saying is that I want to run my graphics cards in SLi mode, whee they basically work together and share bandwidth. It gives a huge performance bump. The cards are capable of this, according to the manufacturer. There's a bridge - basically a little circuit board with plugs on each end, that you normally use for this purpose. You just plug the two cards together. I have the bridge, but there is no place to plug them together - they don't have the connection. Some cards don't need the bridge. I'm just trying to figure out whether my cards need it or not, and the manufacturer is not being helpful in this regard.

Did you email support, or give them a call on their 800#?

That's like asking for directions. I can't do that.
Actually, I will. I tried to email them, and I checked their faq's and searched their's and nVidia's forums. I'll monkey with it a little tonight and call them tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I can run SLi on those cards without a bridge, so it was sort of an aside question. The real issue is the goofy mouse. I don't want anything preventing me from shotgunning zombies, aliens, Nazi's or Combine soldiers into oblivion. Plus, it's tough to use in SL when it keeps jumping all over the place or disappearing entirely.

Check Control Panel/Mouse configurations. It might be that you need to actually slow DOWN your mouse settings. Mine are all at about half their max capabilities. If I ramp them all up, then my mouse does the jittery thing, and it's often hard to even see.
Good luck!

Good luck! I'll fiddle with them tonight. I always use trailers so I can see the mouse move a little better, but maybe I just need to monkey around with them a little. I talked to EVGA on the phone today. They are pretty convinced I'm retarded (hah - they're late to the party). Apparently, one of the models of 8600 GT 512Mb cards doesn't require a bridge. It uses the PCIe Bus to share bandwidth, which makes no sense to me, but which I'll accept as truth for now. I'll play with that, too and see what i come up with. So, the mouse is the issue for now. Unless you count not having a decent computer desk. Laying on the floor makes my back hurt. I'll solve that problem this weekend.

My optical mouse sometimes does funny things if I use a mouse pad that is too reflective....
(I am only using my tablet mouse at home though....that doesn't have any laser or anything, it works without a battery and just has this soft cloth bottom. I wuv it)
And congrats on your new speedboat...er...computer. Nice machine.

Actually, it seems like the mouse pad was half the problem and monkeying around with the mouse controls was the rest for everything but SL.
In SL it still flickers. I also had some weird flickering with certain textures on the screen, but it only seemed to be happening at the Hnason Infohub. I tp'ed all over the place and had no problems with the graphics. The flickery mouse was the only issue. I'll keep messing with it. I'm not frustrated yet.

Did anyone ever have any suggestions for this?
Mine is doing the same thing; in Windows XP the mouse is totally fine. It's only once I get into SL that the mouse goes all jittery and flickery. What's the "Mouse Smoothing" option supposed to do in the Advanced menu? I don't notice a difference.

Turn off the trailers. It fixed my similar mouseproblems.

Tried that; it's not the trailers. Funnily enough, I just installed a game (Crysis) which is really hard on the graphics card, and it does the same thing. I've got the latest drivers from Nvidia... what's next?
