rant / harangue - delete at will

Hello. This post is nothing more than a rant/harangue to get my frustrations out. Since I doubt I'm posting in the proper place, feel free to delete the post - I just can't find the rants/harangue's forum anymore.

Ever since the 1.4 upgrade, I've had nothing but problems. From the editing bugs that cause random prims to change attributes, to the changes that [I think] were made to LSL but not mentioned anywhere, to the twice-or-more-hourly crash or relog due to client getting out of sync with the server, to the general slowness of everything, 1.4 has been a terrible experience for me. I realize the lindens are working on it, and I've submitted bug reports when I can (although most of the time it's just "okay, it just randomly crashed", not particular to any action), but it's still very frustrating.

(Especially since the major new feature of 1.4, custom animations, requires an expensive piece of software to take advantage of, so there's nothing "new" for me)

1.4 has been flaky as hell for me too, and got worse with every patch.

Lately I've been bombing to desktop for no reason at all. The last time, it happened 3 times during an hour long IM conversation where I was doing precisely nothing with my avatar but sitting on the ground.

Also, if I minimize SL for any reason now, it crashes with a memory error.

If it gets any less playable, I guess I wont be playing this game any more (and yes, now I view it as a game. It never used to be. Is now)

u no how dumb i am with puters. i had what i thought was one of my routine hourly crashes last night, but when i tried to log on i get this: Unable to find valid certificate file. Please try re installing second life. If this problem persists contact linden labs.

i have re installed 3 times now and same message. hmmm.
i cant get into the game at all. i notified linden labs but no one will talk to me it seems. (blatant pity attempt)

does this sound like someting messed up with my computer?? when i logged onto this site i also got a security alert that said this sites security certificate has expired or not yet valid.

sorta lost here. and cant get into game. any suggestions??

Um. Well its definitely not something I've come across with regard to logging in. But your machine suddenly getting funny about certificates would seem to indicate that your internet settings have become overly protective of you, I think.

I can only hazard a guess, but try this:

Open Internet Explorer. Go to the Tools Menu, choose Internet Options. Go to the Security tab, and with 'Internet' selected in the Content Zone box, make sure the Security Level is set to Medium. If not, you might try pushing the 'Default Level' button.

If that was set above medium, that could be your problem. If not, click on the 'Advanced' tab and hit the 'Restore Defaults' button.

Close IE and try SL.

Note to geeks... I am not condoning use of these settings as default - I'm trying to help my buddy ascertain what might be wrong

(and I could be way off base here, anyway. and it could potentially cause issues with other thingies. but we can deal with that once we know if that's where the trouble lies)

i was already at default.

hmmmm... guess i will have to wait for linden labs to look at me. never had such a weird thing like this before. maybe i have been banned with no notice for some unknown reason that no one can tell me. dunno.

Marilyn, check the date on your computer. If it somehow got set way ahead to like 2010 all the SSL certificates would think they're expired.

that worked eddy, the date on my computer was set at january 1 2003 for some reason and when i reset it, i can get in game. ut oh. i gonna find u and give u a big ole sloppy kiss u sweet man.
