When I login to second life sometime between 2 to 5 minutes the browser says stopped responding and and locks up and sends a crash report. I will switch to a new location and the same thing.
The computer is a 2.5 gig with 3 gigs of ram. Not a computer issues (I am a computer tech)
I have set my settings down in SL and that still does not work. Any ideas?

Clear your cache (Edit > Preferences > Network).

Which viewer are you using?

If it's not your computer, as you state, and something over 95% of the users of SL are experiencing no major problems like yours, then the problem must lie somewhere between the Linden Lab servers and the connection on your computer to your router (if you are using one), modem and your ISP. My bet is it's somewhere between the keys on your keyboad, buttons on your mouse and the LL servers.

Try the simple first.......reset your modem and/or router.

And, as a computer tech, I'm sure you know some specs would come in handy for anyone trying to help. I little more than 2.5 gig processor and 3 gigs of RAM.

have 2 computers in the house, one wireless and one not. they both do it, LIKE I SAID!!!! not the computers! and I know what I am talking about on the computer, I only tossed out the prosessor and ram cause that if the first thing someone asks. no need to list the whole computer specs out. yes I have tried hooking the computer straight to the modem. it is not the routers, one linksys N and one Netgear N dual band. they are both fine. (yes I have 2 modems for 2 routers)

Milla Janick: (Clear your cache (Edit > Preferences > Network).

Which viewer are you using?) I have tried that one the one computer right after it started.

I know Cox throttles some ports, they say they don't but I run servers and download large files from news groups and I know they throttle some ports.

Is this a new problem, or have you never been able to use SL well?

If your ISP is throttling you just on the basis of bandwidth, you should be able to see it using a speed test like those at DLSreports. However, if they're applying QoS, you'll have to talk to them about it.

If SL is just "not responding", it could easily be video driver or chip issues as well. Or, if you have virtualized your disks among all your computers, that could be causing an issue.

It might not be the computers but since this is not a widespread problem for almost anyone using SL it certainly indicates it's something other than SL or it's servers. As someone with a fair amount of troubleshooting under her belt I know the very first thing a competant trouble shooter does is NOT to go in closed minded when tackling a problem. You asked for help..........and promptly told us you were a computer technician. Well, I'm no computer tech myself but I know your problem lies somewhere between your keyboard keys (and mouse buttons) and the Linden Lab servers in San Fransico. You hooked your computer directly to your modem.....did you reset that modem in the mean time? You said you cleared your cache......did you delete the cache folder all together? You apparently don't know which viewer you are using.......hmmmm. Come on computer tech....dig harder. You'll figure it out.

And some simple (for a tech) specs would not hurt. Like your operatiing system, video card (and driver version), system memory type (3 gigs of what.....ddr, ddr2 and how fast)? Type of connection to the internet (cable, DSL, T1....etc). What's your tested download speed? How long has this problem existed.......a day, a week, or forever? What's your video card temp under load? When was the last memory test you made on those computers? When was the last time you cleaned out your computer case?

You asked for the help........and got snotty when we request some simple information to try to help. If you know it all then why ask us? To be perfectly honest I believe your problem starts and ends between you HID and that final connection from your modem to your ISP. If you don't want to accept that as a very likely possibility I doubt you'll ever be able to fix your problem.
