I just got SL (1.2.9) to run on my P2-400 with 320MB of RAM and a 64MB GeForce2 AGP card (running the latest drivers). I had to turn my sight down to 64 meters, 0 particles, and other settings are about as low as they can go; although my resolution is at 1024x768.

Is this bizarre or are the recommended specs set a litle higher than they absolutely need to be? Really, I mean to ask, have I stumbled on a unique setting or is this a known, "undocumented feature" of SL?

I knew someone who played SL on a P3 500 on a regular basis. Though I imagine it wasnt pretty.

The worst part was that I had clothing turned down to 0, so everyone looked like a grey avatar. Beyond that, really, the only problem was having a limited distance to see.

I'll keep playing on my game machine, but being able to have two of my avs logged in at once is going to increase my ability to create machinema pieces.

The Lindens have a set of "spare" avatars exactly for shooting movies. Why dont you pitch your movie idea to them and see if they let you use them.

1. Because I really don't have an idea for it right now. I'm mostly still testing to see what I can do with my systems at home.

2. It'll probably be porn. ;-)

You have piqued my interest. I'm going to go dig through the site and see what they say/have for machinema stuff. Thanks, Eggy!

You can't really argue the minimum specs are wrong in this case. I mean, you have to turn basically everything off to run on that system. The specs provided are the specs for being able to play SL with regular options actually enabled ;)

Catherine Omega: Yes, but lots of stuff isn't listed. "Making UI harder to use than ever" and "removing all the necessary status icons" things.... there's nothing like that in the release notes. :)
