I downloaded the file, I dragged the file from the little white disky thing into my Applications folder, then I unmounted the white disky thing, then I double clicked the icon in Applications, then the icon appeared in dock for like three seconds and went away, no program loaded.
What did I do wrong?
*cry*

This is an iMac, 768mb Ram, GeForce 4 MX with 64mb (I think), and a 1ghz processor (G4).
Yes, I rebooted, still no go.

Okay, let's see.
Do me a favor and in the Finder go to ~homefolder/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/. Look for a file called Second Life.crash.log. If the crash log is there I would just post it here so the Lindens can have a look at it. (change the extension from .log to .txt before posting).
There are also some individual log files for SL in ~homefolder/Library/Application Support/Second Life/logs/. We could take a look at those as well if need be.
For the record I'm running a G4/450, 768MB RAM, GeForce2 MX, on 10.3.
Lindens: Anything else we can do to help squash bugs?

There's definatly a crash log for SL, but, the second directory you posted, in Application Support, does not exist. What could this mean? I think either 10.2.8 is all buggy and that's what it is, or I installed something wrong.

Sorry, sorry... it appears you'll need OS 10.3.0 (Panther) to use the Mac client.

Oy vey. That sucks, majorly. I don't own Panther, and I had no intentions of buying it. Oh well, I guess I either can't play SL or I have to spend $130 or whatever on it. *sigh*

Spend it. You know you want to. Exposé is sexy. It will probably even run faster. (It is noticably snappier than Jag for me.)

Aha! I wondered if that might be the case. James, defintely worth the upgrade for the speed increase alone. Robin, how difficult will it be to make it compatible with 10.2.6+? Have you been developing in 10.2 or just dev builds of Panther? Are there 10.3 only frameworks you're using? Just curious if the 10.3 requirement is just for the alpha version or if you plan to make that a requirement for the final. (there may be quite a few people in James' shoes) ----- Edit: LOL James ordered 10.3 while I was typing my reply...

We're 10.3 only right now because Xcode (Apple's dev environment) is having some growing pains and isn't correctly generating 10.2.6 compliant code. Apple is working with us to fix the problem, but right now we're 10.3 only.

Thanks for the replies, Cory and Robin (and everyone else!). I ordered the 10.3 last night, came to something like $112 with overnight shipping, so, it's probably sitting on my desk at work right now. If I feel well enough, I'll drive into work and pick it up. Yay SL for Mac!

I can't wait for the 10.2 version to be out -- I've got this G4 PowerBook I want to try it on.

As some of you have noticed, the UI in the Mac Alpha is a bit different from the 1.1.9 release and it says "1.2"
While the Mac Alpha is from a slightly more recent snapshot of the codebase than today's release, it is not the final 1.2 release and should not be thought of as such. We just bump our internal version numbers as soon as we branch for a release, so the day after 1.1 went live, all of our internal version numbers went to 1.2.
For the development geeks, since the Mac Alpha comes from the trunk and not the branch, it picked up the 1.2 version number.

So it has a few of the 1.2 changes that had been merged in to the trunk before the Mac alpha was locked and labled. Cool.
