I keep reading the FAQ's and I just don't see how you create an Alt account. I would like one additional one (basic free) and don't mind the one time setup free if need be but I don't see where it's done at all. I searched through my account as well. As it is now I created another screen name......... now I don't know if that is the same thing. Also can I use that screen name in my existing SL viewer without losing all my data for this screen name? Want to follow the rules but really having a hard time trying to do it correctly........ I would hate to use the second name in login and then all my money, clothes etc I have acquired with this name disapear........

Thanks for any help.

You just create a new account the same way you created the first account. You won't lose anything, and there is no fee to do it (unless you want your alt to be premium).

There is various misinformation floating around, but that's all there is to it.

So when I sign in, it will save my new name and info in the same SL software. ? Just want to be sure. My first screen name info will be safe and I won't lose anything. I do think you said this, but I want to be sure.

I guess I just don't understand how the names are saved...... first name and second name all saved on my computer with clothes, money etc... or is this a server thing? I was curious too how you back things up if your computer crashes.... looking at the files, I am just not sure.....

Here is the Alt Account FAQ:

You simply have a new name and password. You can use the same viewer, or separate sessions.

Some of the new gateways won't allow you to use the same email address, however.

What the software on your computer will do is create a new directory with the alt's information in it. It will remain separate from your main account, or any other alt accounts you have. Things don't get mixed up.

It may help you to understand that all your inventory, clothes, &c. is not stored on your computer, but rather on SL's servers. Creating a new account creates a new database entry over on those servers to store the new information.

Locally, you do have some information stored, like IM and chat logs - but not your inventory. As Key noted, the viewer running on your hard drive will create a new separate folder for each account that you use to log in, so the logs won't be overwritten or mixed.

After you have created a new account, each time you want to log in, just run your viewer as you would normally and type in the name and password for the account you want to log in as.

Thank you so much, that is what I wanted to know........ my new me is already exploring. :) I can see also why if they wished to charge a small fee for a setup, keeping stuff on their servers......

Also good to know if a computer crash ( I have gone through some that I had to reformat) happens, stuff is stored there so I won't lose it.

Ha ha speaking of............ my broadband just died as I went to post this and I have no online connection....... computers,,,,,,,, got to love them........ <G> @@

Again thanks you all have been very helpful
