I'm trying to log in.. but it's telling me the Grid is down or whatever. But on the main page before logging in.. AND on the Grid status page on the website say the Grid is open and running. So... what's actually going on?

You think it will become ever happy again.... this is going on for days now.... and they don't put there crap on the status page also anymore.

I don't think the grid is actually down. Logins have been restricted so it might as well be if you are not in world. The initial accessment of the problem was a load issue.........they restricted logins in hopes of taking some of that load off (or, at least, that's the way it sounded to me). They opened the logins again but apparently the problem promptly returned........logins have been restricted since then as far as I can tell. Evidently, a few are getting on when the concurrents falls below whatever limits LL has established. Now they are saying it's a server problem........makes sense to me. If you have a sick server not handling it's share of the load then restricting logins until the problem is found is a good way to deal with the problem.

You should have been here 2 or 3 years ago when the grid was truly down.........and down for hours. And there was no information whatsoever from LL. Let me jog my memory..........hmmmmmmm, that seemed to happen when the concurrent users reached something like 10,000. Not sometimes when that magic number was reached..........EVERYTIME!!

Then it was 15,000, 20,000, 30,000 (which was the max concurrents for many many months).............slowly it creeped up to 50,000. From about 50,000 to very lately the "load" issues were actually very few and far between. It seems we are at another threshold...........65,000!!! Patience..........it'll pass. For a while anyway. :)
