Mac Hanging
06-15-2004 17:29
I'm having the exact same problem, I get in, do a couple of things, but the minuite that I use the viewer for anything or I try and fly somewhere, the program crashes. I've logged out, re-booted all to no avail. Very frustrating, considering the program worked well and rarely crashed before.

Mac 1.4 crash

Simple, there is a bad bug in the program. In one instance I see a bad memory access while unpacking data. The only solution is to wait for SL to feel like fixing it.

Crashing after 1.4
06-15-2004 17:55
At first, I was able to stay in for 10 seconds. Then I turned off almost every display option, including AGP and Anistropic and every single other radio button. I was able to spend several minutes flying my hoverboard (which doesn't stick at sim borders anymore!) until I froze again. Now, every time I try to log in and walk toward my hoverboard a sim away, I crash again.

Here's my system info and a slice of system.log from the restart after one crash to the restart after another crash.

Hmmmmm

After trying many things, including another brandnew avatar, I have found that I am crashing only (for now) when I get close to Dore. I think there is something there I cannot view without crashing. In fact, I tried flying in BACKWARD - so I only could see what I'd already flown over - and I only crashed when I got to the hill. It's the same hill my hoverboard was sitting over, btw. When I just saw the hill in my peripheral vision, I crashed again.

Goo figure.

I'm having a crashing problem, too. I'm running OS 10.3.4. For me, SL 1.4 crashes at the precaching stage, and immediately prompts me to report the bug to Apple. I've attached my system info and crash log.

1.4 crashes

i'm having the pre-cache crash problem too. I seem to get partially loaded and then the aforementioned crash and crash reporter. I have to force quit to get out. Have done the log off, reboot, etc. Hope they fix it soon i miss my SL

try deleting your cache
06-15-2004 18:55
I was having the same problem, so I tried deleting the cache files (in /Users/<your name>/Library/Application\ Support/SecondLife/cache). Once I did that I was able to log in, and I haven't experienced any crashes since (so far).

deleting cache works for a while

Deleting my cache allowed me to get past the "Precaching" crash, but the system froze up very quickly after that. I agree that there's a nasty bug, probably memory related (I had one Kernel Panic), that LL needs to fix.

I followed Fractal Mandala's advice and deleted the cache - and I haven't had any more problems. Seems like a rather innocent thing. :-)

Deleted Cache - still crashing perodically
06-16-2004 07:09
I deleted my cache, which finally allowed me to log on. At certain locations, I would still lock up and the program would crash again. I think I deleted cache and logged back in about four times before things got semi-stable and then I became a ghost (could not see anything except attachments). I logged back out and then back in and this seemed to stablize things. Though I'm still having problems with inventory items, building and using the viewer.

deleting cache worked for me
06-28-2004 15:47
After upgrading to 1.4, every startup crashed at the Precaching.... message. After 5 or six times, I found the cache folder mentioned above, deleted it, and all has been well. No further crashes. cross fingers?
