I was goofing off tonight, and noticed that the SL Viewer totally has no clue what computer I have. The viewer says I have this:
Second Life 1.22.11 (113941) Mar 6 2009 12:50:02 (Second Life Release) Release Notes
CPU: Intel Pentium III/Pentium III Xeon (0.25 micron process) with external L2 cache (2826 MHz) Memory: 3328 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Build 2600) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce 9800 GT/PCI/SSE2 OpenGL Version: 3.0.0
When in reality, i have this :
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
Can anyone shed some light on this, maybe have a fix for this?

Never argue with the viewer. What it is showing is a comparison to what your system is performing like. Obviously SL runs like a P3 machine for you. Is a fix really needed? That stuff is not important, you know what machine you are on, it does not matter if SL gets it right in that about box.

Chances are SL is just being silly, but it can't hurt to verify that. Just to be certain that the viewer is screwing up, and that whoever sold you your computer didn't rip you off by swapping out your CPU, try running the Intel Processor ID Utility and/or CPUZ. http://www.intel.com/support/processors/tools/piu/http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.phpBoth programs are free, and tiny. CPUZ is especially handy, because it will ID not just your CPU, but also your motherboard and RAM sticks, right down to their serial numbers. It also shows you a full listing of specs for each component, which is helpful for diagnostics, troubleshooting, and for when it comes time to upgrade parts.

Thanks for the responses....my guess is it doesn't really matter what the SL Client thinks what I have, as long as there isn't any arbitrary performance hits because of it. Strangely enough, I ran the "openlife" viewer, and I get the same computer stats.....
The only other thing I would think could be effected would be the error reporting system, as I assume all my computer specs are being uploaded as well...might give them some bad crash data.

Mine has been reporting my Core 2 Duo as a Pentium III and I've just been ignoring it but a thought just occurred to me... does the SL software set any preferences for you during installation that might be based on which processor it THINKS you have?

I think the incorrect specs are recent viewer problem. Last year i recall my specs showing correctly. Today however they show: CPU: Intel Pentium III/Pentium III Xeon (0.25 micron process) with external L2 cache (2992 MHz) Memory: 3070 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (Build 6001) Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT OpenGL Version: 2.1.8304 Release

mine still doesn't know....
CPU: Dual i386 (Unknown) (2530 MHz)
my Core Duo and Core 2 Duo machines have always said Unknown... hasn't ever effected anything as far as I know.
