New Catalyst Drivers released today - 4.8
Post your experiences in SL with the update, better or worse?

Seems they've added several features:
--improved VPU recovery
--better support for playing on HDTVs via DVI
--and some sort of geometry instancing as quoted below

provides assistance when a game has to render many objects where the geometry is highly similar. Geometry Instancing allows the VPU to create multiple objects from a single geometric model, rather than passing an entire new model for each item on the screen. This increases the rendering speed of images such as leaves, or grass.

here's a link to the complete notes:

Switched to them already, seems fine. Still get some terrain flashing (but then again I manually made it so I can turn on AGP, so..lol)..but everything is working with no new problems.

I sent you a reply online, let me know if you got it..

BUT..since I read this in the forums I can say again..

In the Second Life directory, there is a file called :

featuretable.txt

Edit it, for all the ATI cards (8500, 9000 and 9700), or just the one you got, change the 0 0 in the follow line(s) to 1 1..

RenderAGP 0 0

Then you have the ability to turn it on/off in the game and see if it makes a difference for you.

New drivers = BAD BAD BAD.

Crashing with layered transparencies, especially on alt-rotate around object.

Recommend NOT installing. Go with the July drivers instead

I installed the 4.8 drivers on my Radeon 9800 XT and have not noticed a different either way. Pretty stable so far.

Hiro Pendragon what card you got?

I have a 8500 and a 9000 and a 9200 (3 machines) and all are perfect, notice no real change from the old to the new driver. All system run SL just fine, beside minor terrain flicking in the snow zones, which was always there.

9500 and it is crashing a lot on the newest drivers. I think tomrorrow I will be reinstalling the previous drivers. They were pretty stable
